Discipline with Dignity
Please join the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Training & Consultation Team for this IN PERSON Training Series.
Do you want to learn new practices to support discipline at both the classroom and office level? This training aims to empower educators with knowledge and practical strategies to create a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment through restorative and preventative discipline practices. This series will support teachers and administrators in developing a classroom and office continuum of responses for their context. The sessions will focus on treating all students with dignity, building relationships, responsibility, and problem solving skills. Participants will leave with actionable insights and tools to foster positive behavior and enhance student success.
Participant Information
Target Audience:
General education teachers, special education teachers, paraeducators, interventionists, coaches, principals, special education liaisons, other administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists physical therapists, speech therapists
Act 48 Hours:
- 5.5 (five and a half) Act 48 hours per session, 11 (eleven) Act 48 hours in total will be awarded after the training series.
- Participants are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to attend all sessions in series. Partial Act 48 offered.
Cost: There is no cost to attend this training.
Registration Priority: Educators who work for LEAs in the AIU3 region will have priority registration.

Session 1

This session focuses on defining discipline and the research behind effective disciplinary practices. Participants will learn strategies for strengthening connections between educators, students, and the school community. In addition, participants will also delve into proactive and restorative practices that can be implemented at the classroom and schoolwide level.
Session 2
Date: October 23, 2024
Time: 8:30am -3:30pm
Location: IMS Room, AIU 475 East Waterfront Drive, Homestead, PA 15120
In this session, key topics include understanding the function of behavior, promoting dignity and a sense of belonging among students, and data disaggregation. Participants will also explore restorative practices as an alternative to punitive discipline and learn the principles and techniques of restorative conferencing, emphasizing repairing harm and rebuilding relationships within the school community. Additionally, participants will be introduced to the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model by Dr. Ross Greene, emphasizing proactive strategies for addressing challenging behavior collaboratively with students. Finally, attendees will reflect on current discipline practices and create their own classroom and/or office level of responses to support student behavior .
