What Does The Fox Say?
November 14, 2024
Dear Parent/Guardian,
11/6/24… That was the first day of what felt like winter because the snow was definitely falling. The kids were wishing for a snow day. Let’s be honest, the staff was too. I would have appreciated a delayed start - it was not a safe drive into Denver. Before the day began, we knew there were five staff absent for the full day and three partial day absences. The expected is something we can plan for. We were prepared for those absences. The falling snow was oh-so-beautiful and it made the world look peaceful. It wasn't the snow’s fault there were germs everywhere and some kind of pestering cold and stomach bug that was going around. As the inches of white powder accumulated and it became clear there would be no snow day nor delayed start, the messages started to come in. Out Sick. An additional five staff called out absent. If you’re counting, that was thirteen total. This was not the first nor the last time staff absences will be chaotic. It’s not predictable but it happens. What I do know is that it will be okay. We have five really reliable subs (shoutout to Mazzanti, Nelson, Rupp, Song, Vagi), split class coverage, non-classroom coverage protocols and a staff that is willing to jump in if we need it. At the heart of that are teams that are willing to suck it up for the day and say, “I got you. Because I know you got me and it's good for the kids.” The second component that is essential to this balance is a parent community that understands that circumstances come up and you trust that we are doing what we can. Unfortunately, more so this year than others, some of our staff have experienced family (pets are included) needs or losses. When staff were at their lowest or at a loss their colleagues have been there to fill in and perhaps pick up the pieces of their heartache, while our parents have been patient. There are so many things that can chip away at or outright tear a community apart. I am grateful that we are growing stronger year after year. As the season of thanks is upon us, let me say thank you… To this staff and to our community for having high expectations and also showing kindness, understanding, and appreciation.
Together, we are Inspire.
Sincerely,
Linda August
Principal
