Dear Families,
It was wonderful that so many of you could come to the culmination of our Capoeira residency with Fuá. There was truly a sense of community within the space.
Morning arrival - some thoughts about ensuring a good start to the day for your child, Installment I: The arrival window for getting into the classroom (not just the parking lot) is 7:45-7:55. Getting to school and into the classroom on time ensures that the children have time for breakfast, settling in and connecting with their classmates. It also ensures that they don’t miss out on anything or worry that they have. We really work at moving through the day at a relaxed pace. Starting the day off all together helps establish that pace. If this has been a struggle for your family, please feel free to check in with me.
Valentine’s Day: This week, in anticipation of Valentine’s Day, each person in the school (students and staff) drew the name of someone else in the school for whom they will create a Surprise Valentine. Students can make their card at school during art class and open art or they can make it home. The Valentines will be posted on the front bulletin board and then personally delivered on Valentine’s Day. We hope you will stop by to enjoy the cheerful display. A great antidote for February doldrums!
Establishing a new tradition: In addition, this year a smaller version of the school-wide Surprise Valentine will take place in each of the classrooms with each student making a card for a classmate, shifting away from the practice of students bringing in cards from home for classmates. Making cards in the classroom adds a personalized touch and ensures everyone can participate fully and equitably. A Valentine treat will be provided in each classroom.
Skating next week - conditions permitting:
Monday morning recess: K with 4/5 buddies
Monday afternoon recess: Grade 1 with 4/5 buddies
Tuesday morning recess: 2/3
Friday morning recess: 4/5
If you can help out during a recess, we may be able add more ice time in. Morning recess MTWThF - 10:50-11:20 and afternoon recess MWThF - 1:20-1:50. Let me know if you can help out so I can plan accordingly.
Families Together- Please see the linked flyer for the revised series. There will be four sessions, 5:30-7:00. While it would be ideal for folks to come to all of them, Mrs. Hayyat, our school counselor, has designed the sessions so that each parent training can stand alone. (There is no training component for the children.) Dinner and childcare will be provided. Please contact Samantha if you plan to attend a session.

Ilsley Library Challenge
Ilsley Public Library is challenging the youth in our ACSD community to read 15 titles from the various local and state youth book award lists (Red Clover, Golden Dome, Midd Reads, and Green Mountain) between January 1st and March 31st. Tracking sheets will be sent home today. Youth who read 15 books will earn a ticket to a special movie showing at the Marquis Theater in April!
