COLD Crazy Week!
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
I hope you all surved the three extra days with your kiddos at home--stuck inside due to the temps!😉 I guess Mother Nature decided to give us an early Mid-Winter Break. Today our teachers were submitting grades and workin on our first semester report cards.
Our report cards will be sent home on Friday, February 7th, since our Student Led Conferences are not until the end of February.
Student Led Conferences: As a Leader in Me School, we place a strong priority on raising student voice. We believe it is imperative to have our students own their learning and have a voice in knowing what their strengths and growth areas are. Please be sure to mark your calendars for 2/25 and 2/27 our second set of conferences that will be student led. It is important that your child attends to have a chance to share their progress and their goals.
DAWGS and HOUSES and FAMILIES: As we have shared before, this year Sunset Lake in an effort to build an even stronger sense of community and sense of belonging we created our DAWGS. These are our "houses" in which we have cross grade groups of students divided in about 90-100 students in each DAWG House. In addition to our Houses we have Families within the Houses. The Families are smaller groups of cross grade students that have a lead adult that help create connections and relationships with students across the grade levels. We are excited that next Monday, our students will be meeting in their Families for a short amount of time at the end of the day. We will practice our House handshakes as well as place a focus on the power of Growth Mindset. *Growth mindset was a characteristice we determined as a focus based on our student Social Emotional Survey results from this fall. We are very excited about the excitement our DAWGS and Critter Coin has brought to our building this year. We encourage you to ask your child more about it if you have any questions.
Habit #4: Think Win-Win
As part of our Leader in Me program, January’s focus is on Habit #4: Think Win-Win. This habit teaches students the value of collaboration and seeking mutually beneficial solutions in their interactions. Thinking Win-Win means everyone can succeed, and we’re excited to help students apply this mindset to their relationships and academic endeavors. At home, you can support this habit by discussing ways to compromise and showing how to find solutions where everyone benefits.
Looking Ahead
