Around the School Spotlight
At Hawks View Elementary, the first weeks of school are dedicated to establishing and reinforcing important routines and procedures. These practices are essential for ensuring safety, fostering organization, helping promote regulation of attention and behavior and creating a positive learning environment. From the moment students arrive, they are taught expectations for hallway behavior, classroom transitions, and playground safety. In the classroom, teachers introduce daily routines that help students start the day, organize their belongings, and follow instructions. These structured routines not only provide clarity but also empower students to take ownership of their learning. Consistency in procedures helps reduce anxiety and allows students to focus on their academics.
For students who may find it challenging to transition into school each morning, having a consistent routine is equally important. It helps ease the stress of starting a new school year. If your child is struggling with this, please let us know. We are here to help create a morning routine that supports a smooth and successful start to their day.

Back to School Night
Who: All Hawks View families are invited.
When: September 26th from 5:30-7:00
What: Back to School Night! This year again, we will be doing a dinner & open house event and students are welcome to attend with their parents! Dinner will be served, courtesy of Journey Church, between 5:30-6:30 in our cafeteria. There will be no set session times during the night, instead families can attend during the open house time that works best for them. Families will get to:
Visit classrooms and see some of the curriculum activities students have been working on
Visit our PE/Music/STEM classes
Meet other important staff members around the building
Please save the date and plan to join us for a fun family night!
Please Note: Parent/teacher conferences are coming up in October. The purpose of this evening is to get to know your child's classroom, teachers and staff in the school. We ask that individual conferences wait until the October date so that teachers can spend time talking with numerous families this evening. Thank you so much!
Pick Up Procedures on 3rd-5th Grade Side of Lot
Parents who walk up to meet their child(ren) over by the portables at the end of the day…we are going to ask that you please wait over near the tennis courts/track, not come up to where teachers exit with students at the portables. It’s getting really clogged in that area and it makes it difficult for teachers to ensure every student gets home safely. We appreciate your help with this!
Farm to School
Nutrition Services is partnering with Hood River Organics and Our Table Cooperative to provide students with fresh, organic produce during Oregon’s harvest season! Our salad bars will feature locally-sourced apples, cucumbers, blueberries, cherry tomatoes, Italian prune plums, and strawberries. Our Farm-to-School partnerships and grant funding allow us to continue offering students healthy, delicious options while supporting local small businesses. We’re thrilled to bring these fresh flavors straight from Oregon farms to your child’s plate!
OBOB Informational Meeting & Updates
Interested in learning more about how Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) works? Think you might want to coach a team for your student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade? Feel free to join us for a short (OPTIONAL) informational parent meeting on Friday, October 18th starting at 2:30 in Mrs. Conrad’s room (Room #36). Kids are welcome to attend if it is more convenient.
The purple registration forms for signing up to participate in OBOB at Hawks View this year will be distributed soon and are due Friday, November 8th. We're looking forward to kicking off another fantastic year of OBOB at Hawks View!
