PRINCIPAL’S PĀNUI
Kia ora e te whānau, welcome back for Term 2. We are so fortunate to have the most beautiful scenic backdrop to our little kura, Taranaki Maunga always looks gorgeous with some snow on him, but it is a bit of an adjustment to get used to that cold again and a reminder of the chilly days to come.
With the change in the temperature some tamariki and whanau are struggling with illness, their is still covid lingering and a 24 hour tummy bug that is accompanied by a headache. If at any stage you want covid testing kits, we still have plenty, talk to Carol in the office. If you can please encourage your child/ren to wear a singlet and bring their polar fleece and if the weather calls for it their jacket then we have the best chance of keeping them warm at school. Fortunately the sun so it's been great to get outside but there have been a few shivering kids with that chill in the wind.
We are adding a black beanie to our school uniform with our logo on. These have not arrived yet, once they do we will let you know. In the mean time feel free to provide a named beanie to help keep your child's ears nice and warm, especially if they are prone to earaches.
Thank you for the effort that everyone is making to ensure our ākonga are all in correct uniform and for the notes coming in from parents to teachers when they are unable to have correct uniform.
Last week I had the priviledge of joining the principals from our other local schools on a journey up to Paihia to the MAC (Māori Achievement Collaborative) Conference. It was an amazing experience to visit Waitangi and surrounding areas and hear some the stories of the Ngāpuhi iwi as well as see and experience first hand where He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni, The Declaration of Independence of New Zealand and Te Tiriti o Waitangi were signed. The company was great, it was lovely to spend time with our other tumaki and colleagues from local kura, the weather was amazing and it was a beautiful place to visit.
As we head into Term Two, we encourage you to embrace our school vision of 'Succeeding Together' and partnering with the school in your child's learning. Each class has age appropriate home learning, we would like to increase the number of students who are participating in home learning. Parents of our Year 0-4 learners are supporting students to strengthen their literacy and help set them up for a great start. Our Year 5-8 learners are becoming more independent and developing self-management skills, their learning is helping them to improve their spelling and relates to the learning we are doing in the classroom.
The winter sports season has started, it is great to see so many kids out enjoying sports. Thank you to our Netball coaches for setting up and helping out with our teams. They have had a great start to the season.
We have some great learning and opportunities ahead his term from Rippa Tournaments for our Year 5-8s, Jone's Cup, Junior Play Day at Midhirst, Puanga Celebrations, Pembroke's Got Talent and much more. Please keep an eye out for all the up-and-coming events.

Happiness Highlights
Our second annual Anzac memorial service was such a special way to start a new term. A lot of practise was put into making things go smoothly on the day and it definitely showed. Our head students spoke confidently, working well as a team and supporting each other. The songs were sung beautifully by the whole school and it was a lovely afternoon to share with our wider Pembroke community.
On a lighter note Rata class had an exciting moment this week harvesting their popcorn from the school garden. This was planted at the end of last year and the children have waited so patiently for it to be ready. Finally it was and everyone helped to pick the cobs and remove the old plants from the garden. Now they just have to wait a little longer while the popcorn drys out for a few weeks and then they can enjoy the fruits of their labour.

In the Spotlight
All Our AMAZING Mums!
A big shout out to all our amazing mum's out there and all the wonderful women in their lives who are helping to create a village of support around our families! I am sure your Mother's Day is unlikely to be something out of a fairytale, days as a mum rarely are. But, in amongst it all we hope you find perfect moments that you cherish and if noone else says it, you heard it here - Well done Mum! You're doing a great job and always remember YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT TO BE AMAZING! We hope that you have time to at least congratulate yourself on all that you have learnt since becoming a mum, for persevering through the not so great days and rocking it on the days when magically everything goes 'not too bad'.
Head Student Shout Out
Shout Out From Our Deputy
Izzy: A highlight from the start of the term was the ANZAC Service that we held for our Pembroke Community at the Pembroke Hall. I enjoyed serving the ANZAC biscuits that Kowhai Class had made. I really enjoyed the conversations that I had with people, they asked about the medals I was wearing that belonged to my Great Grandad and I enjoyed hearing about their stories of family members who served in the war and where they served. I sang as part of our school choir and we got lots of compliments from people who said it was the best ANZAC Service they had been to.
