CTE STUDENT INTERNSHIPS
Internships while in high school give students an opportunity to get first hand experience in career fields that they are considering. Participating in an internship opportunity can help you determine if this is indeed a career you want for the next 30-40 years of your life. If you are interested in completing an internship next year, see Mrs. Waugh in the upstairs of the Red Building or email kendall.waugh@mcdowell.k12.nc.us.
Jeremiah Bradley, Intern with Charley Bradley Masonry & Landscaping
Ezylee Fowler, Intern with Rhonda Silver Real Estate
This internship has really opened my eyes to see how much work real estate really is. Real estate is commission-based income, meaning if you aren't making sales there's no money to be made. For me personally, this is not what I would want in the long run because it just doesn't seem like a sustainable income. It has made me realize I want to steer my education back towards the healthcare field leaning into Hospital Administration and management.
Keragen Gunter, Intern with PG Elementary School
I just want to say how much I loved this internship! It has impacted my school experience and the future that I want to live and it has brightened up my day every single day that I go. While dealing with children for most is not an ideal job, I love it and I love working with the teachers and the adults as well.
Jackson Revis, Intern with K & H Motors
In this garage, we work on older model vehicles. Since doing my internship, we have worked on two 1955 Chevrolets. I have learned a lot about welding and body panel placements. I may not choose this as my career after graduation, but I will always continue to tinker and work on old junk cars. I will always know how to work on my own stuff.
Kensly Stewart, Intern with PG Elementary School
The most positive part of my internship experience so far has been the opportunity to work closely with the students. It is rewarding to me to see their growth and progress, and to be part of their learning journey. I have also enjoyed collaborating with the teachers and witnessing their strong sense of teamwork. As for the least positive part, I would say it has been challenging at times to manage the different needs and behaviors of the students. It can be tough to find the right balance and approach for each individual, but it's definitely a learning experience that helps me grow as an educator.
Zach Rich, Intern with Boulevard Barbeque
Since beginning my time at Boulevard Barbeque, I have learned how to communicate with others better. I do a lot of different things in the kitchen from washing dishes, completing prep work, to putting the meat on the smokers. Teamwork is very important at my job site and everyone is always willing to jump in and work together to get work done. I have enjoyed working here and have learned a lot about working in the kitchen of a restaurant.
ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Brady Tipper attended a 3-day residential leadership camp for high school students on April 11-14. This camp exposes students to techniques and perspectives to help develop their leadership skills, and provides them with both structured and unstructured opportunities to learn from both peers and professionals. Brady was chosen at the end of the camp by his group leader to attend again next year as a Youth Leader.
