Welcome Back!!
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Welcome back to the new school year at John Glenn. I hope this letter finds you all well-rested and excited for the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead. As we embark on this academic year, I want to extend a warm welcome to our returning students and families, as well as to those who are joining us for the first time. Our dedicated staff has been working diligently over the summer to prepare an engaging and enriching learning environment that will support every student’s growth and success.
This year, we are focusing on a few new policies, including our No Cellphones in the Classroom policy. Students will be required to have their phones put away during class time. Failure to do so could result in discipline and/or confiscation of their phone. Please click here for the complete policy. Our goal is to create a vibrant school community where each student feels valued, challenged, and supported.
Attendance is also very important to student success. Please make sure your students are on time to school. School begins at 7:10 and students are expected to be in their seats by this time. We also ask that parents/guardians please limit the time they take their students’ out of school. We understand it is not always possible, but we recommend trying to make appointments outside the school day. If you are picking up your child, you will need a valid ID to enter the building.
Here are a few important details to keep in mind as we begin the school year:
First Day of School: Tuesday, August 27 (½ day)
School Hours: 7:10am-2pm (building opens at 6:45am)
Open House: Thursday, August 22nd from 5-6:30
Picture Day: Thursday, September 5th
Schedules: Schedules will be released on MiStar on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Please be sure to check your Mistar before the first day as schedules can change. Printed schedules will be available for freshmen at the Open House.
Upcoming Events: Homecoming week of September 27th
We encourage you to stay engaged with our school community through our website, newsletters, and social media channels. Please feel free to reach out to our administration, counselors, and teachers with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year.
Let’s work together to make this school year a memorable and successful one for all our students. I am looking forward to the many accomplishments and celebrations we will share as a community.
Welcome back, and let’s make this year great!
Sincerely,
Scott Kelley

MiSTAR APP
Great news! For your ease and convenience, there is an app that has been created to have quick access to your Parent and Student Connection. In your Google App or Play store, type in “MiStar” and you will have the option to download the “Q ParentConnection” app for yourself and also the “Q StudentConnection” app for your child. I downloaded it and found it to be very easy to use. The convenience of having an app, rather than locating the website and looking up my PIN and password each time was great. I highly recommend downloading if you have a device.
If you get the app, you can select the “Re-Enrollment” in the drop down menu to submit your information that way as well.

Attendance
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.
Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.
Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.
There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.
You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.
You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and productive learning environment for all our students.
