From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
Happy October! We have been having so much fun at school and we have some exciting school events coming up this month as well. Thank you to all of our families that have been reading with students for our fall reading BINGO incentive. We have officially filled our tree! Take a look at the pictures below to see the amazing before and after. Our prize is that renowned author and illustrator Matthew Cordell will be visiting our school! Thank you to the FTC for funding a portion of this visit as well! Below you will find more details about this visit and how you can preorder one of his books to be signed as well!
Our current attendance rate is 89%. Meaning on any given day, 11% or more, of our students are absent. We also average over 6% of students that are tardy everyday. Skyward will automatically send out absence reports when students are nearing truancy status and letters will be mailed home shortly for students who have been late or absent 10% or more of the school year. If you are struggling with getting your students here on time or need support, please reach out so we can work together!
Important reminders:
Please make sure your students have an extra pair of clothes to be kept at school just in case and pack an extra snack everyday.
Birthdays - all of our teachers celebrate students' birthdays in the classroom and students are welcome to bring in something to share with the class in celebration. However, food items cannot be brought and shared at school. Some alternative suggestions are: birthday pencils, stickers, small goody bags for classmates.
Halloween - Just like birthdays, we cannot have students bring in food items or candy to be passed out at school. Halloween is a regular school day. FTC will host a fall party the Thursday before fall break as an inclusive celebration for all. Halloween does fall during Red Ribbon Week, the last week of October. Our spirit day theme for 10/31 will allow students to wear school appropriate costumes if they so choose! But please remember that it is a regular school day and students will be playing outside at recess, attending PE, and should be able to take on and off their costumes independently to use the restroom. Please keep that in mind when determining their attire for the day!
FTC Fallfest - We do have a district-wide halloween event on Saturday 10/19 for all Salt Creek families. See the flyer below for more details but this is an opportunity for families that celebrate Halloween to dress up and trick-or-treat with friends and teachers! We hope to see you there!
Parent Volunteers: We have had both parents and teachers interested in partnering with parent volunteers during the school day. If you are able/interested, please complete this form and if there are tasks and times that we could use school volunteers, we will reach out to parens who have expressed interest. THANK YOU!
FINAL Reminder that PreK, Kindergarten and new student physical and immunization records must be turned in to the school by October 15, otherwise students cannot be present at school, starting next week, until those records are on file.
Have a wonderful weekend Vikings!
-Mrs. Scanlan

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
A New Way to Pay Fees in Skyward
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
