Weekly Outcall @Lincoln
February 16, 2025
Cold Weather Reminders:
As the colder weather is upon us, we've noticed that many students are arriving without jackets and warm gear. We want to remind everyone to please dress appropriately for the dropping temperatures. We follow the Illinois State Board of Education's recommendations for outdoor temperatures and time limits to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
Fresh air and outdoor activity are important for middle schoolers' physical and mental health. They can help improve focus, reduce stress, and boost overall well-being. Please help us ensure that your students can comfortably participate in these activities by sending them to school with warm jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students warm and healthy!
5 Essentials
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Beginning in February, students in fourth through twelfth grade will have an opportunity to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey as mandated by the Illinois State Board of Education. The district is required to complete the administration of this survey by March 28, 2025. The student form of the Illinois 5Essentials Survey focuses on perceptions regarding the supportiveness of the school environment and ambitiousness of instruction. The district and schools use information from this survey to enhance our understanding of the student experience in Naperville 203.
Individual student responses to this survey remain confidential; aggregate results will be
published online in conjunction with the annual Illinois Report Card in the fall of 2025. The survey takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete and will be administered online. If you would like your student to not participate, please complete and return the linked PDF to your school’s main office (att: Kevin harper) by Friday, February 21, 2025.
Thank you for your continued support and participation toward improving our schools!

ACCESS testing for English Language Learners, which will be conducted throughout February. This important assessment measures your child’s progress in English language proficiency across four key areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
To help students prepare for the assessment, teachers will meet with them on January 27th during supervised study. During this session, students will review the purpose of the test, its format, and key logistics, including testing dates and locations.
The ACCESS testing dates are as follows:
February 19th
To ensure your child is ready to do their best, we kindly ask for your support by encouraging the following:
A Good Night’s Sleep: Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before testing days.
A Healthy Breakfast: Provide a nutritious breakfast on the mornings of their tests to help them stay focused.
A Positive Mindset: Remind your child to come prepared and try their best during each testing session.
For more detailed information, please refer to the attached letter. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to contact me directly at any time.

LJHS Main Entrance Safety
As a reminder for all parents and visitors entering our school when buzzing in at the front door. For everyone's safety, we kindly ask that only one person be allowed entry at a time. If you notice another individual at the door, please avoid holding it open for them and ensure they have rung the doorbell and been granted access by our office staff. Thank you for helping us maintain a secure environment for all students and staff.
Transportation Reminders To/From School:
Please remember that our front driveway is closed to parent/family drop off and pick up between the hours of 7:30 to 8:00 am and 2:45 - 3:15 pm. Please use the drop off lane located off Waxwing for student drop off and pick up.
- Electric bikes/scooters - please note in accordance with Naperville city ordinances that many E-bikes are allowed only in specific locations when it comes to roadways and sidewalks. Thank you to School Resource Officer Kevin Merrihew who shared this presentation with our community for more information. Any motorized vehicle that is gas powered is prohibited on school property and may be subject to conversation involving Officer Merrihew.
Family Reminders: Outside Food and Beverages
As we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students, I want to remind all families of a few important policies regarding outside food and beverages. At Lincoln Junior High, delivering catered food to students for celebrations or sharing food during lunch is prohibited. This practice helps ensure the safety of all students by minimizing the risk of exposure to allergens that could compromise their health.
Additionally, we encourage all students to bring water bottles for use throughout the day. Please avoid sending sports drinks, sodas, or other beverages to school, as this helps us maintain our allergy-sensitive environment in classrooms. Thank you for your continued support in keeping Lincoln a safe and healthy place for all!
Attendance Reminders
Classes begin daily at 8:00 am. It is important that students arrive at school on time and are ready to learn. For detailed information, please click this link.
Absences
If a student is to be absent or late to school, the parent or guardian must call the school's absence line before 7:45 a.m. at (630) 420-3881. This line is open 24 hours a day and recorded messages can be left anytime before 7:45 a.m.
Early Dismissals
If you need to pick up your student early for an appointment, there are a couple of options we ask that you follow. The day of the appointment, send a note with your student indicating what time you need to pick him/her up and the reason for leaving. Your child must bring the note to the main office before 8:00 a.m. You may also call the Lincoln Junior High Attendance Line to notify the office of your child’s departure time. A pass will be provided and all teachers are notified of any early dismissals. A parent/guardian must come into the building to sign the student out.
