Dear parents and carers.
We have had a great first week back at Kirk Fenton. The week started with an assembly led by staff from the Transpennine Upgrade East Alliance, who came in to talk about the importance of staying safe near railway lines. As you will know, there has been lots of ongoing work on the local railway as they work to electrify the line. This will be turned on in early July; I am pleased children heard these important messages ahead of this, so that they know the dangers electrification can bring.
Yesterday, year 5 spent the day at Howsham Mill where they investigated gears, pulleys and levers. They really enjoyed thinking about forces, and the difference the addition of mechanics can make. The mill itself has been restored over the last decade and is now an environmental education centre, generating hydro-electricity from the waterwheel and two Archimedean Screw turbines, which the children were very interested in.
We have spent time in our classes and worships this week talking about DDay and thinking about what it must have been like to either be landing on the Normandy beaches, or waiting at home for news of loved ones. I have been so impressed at how carefully children have thought about the impact of war, and how important it is that we learn from the past, and remember the victims of war. Lots of children shared stories about their own relatives who fought in the war, and others shared their great knowledge on the events of that period of history.
I know many of you have had problems with ParentPay this week; we appreciate your patience and understanding as they worked to resolve the issues in the system. Usual service has now been resumed!
Have a lovely weekend.

Message from Head Pupils
This week has been a great first week back. Firstly, a couple of people from Network Rail came in to give us a talk about the electrification of the nearby rails and how to keep safe around them. Next week, year 4s are going to the Great Science Share. We were privileged to hear their rap about it. Finally, year 5s went on a trip to a watermill, and had an excellent time.

This week our Numbots Superstars are Jermaine, Scarlett P, Hugo O, Holly S-W, Scarlett E and Louie M. Our Rockstars of the Week are Imogen E, Tilly B, Tom O and Austin B. Well done everyone!
Please remember that accessing Numbots or TT Rockstars is part of our homework and each child should be going on for at least 20 minutes each week. Research shows that it will help your children significantly with their maths learning. If your child cannot access this at home, they can come to maths club on a Thursday lunchtime to do either Numbots or TTR.

Staff Thank You's
If anyone would like to say thank you to or has any positive comments for a member of staff then please complete and submit the form below.
Thank you to all the children that participated in the readathon and we hope they enjoyed it and can use their bookmark for all the future books they will read. We will update on total raised once we’ve counted up the sponsorship money.
Our original plans to hold the summer fair on Saturday 29th June have unfortunately had to be changed. We would like to thank those who had offered to bake for the event, however we have had no volunteers step forward to assist with the running of the fair. Typically we would need circa 20 people to enable us to set up the event and run it successfully. We understand people have busy lives and that the 29th June clashes with the Ulleskelf football event. We have therefore had to make the tough decision to hopefully hold a smaller summer event on the Friday 28th, after school, instead. We will still need volunteers for this event if we are to hold it, therefore please contact us before the end of Wednesday 12th June if you can help. If we can’t secure help for the revised 28th date, we will have to look at cancelling the event altogether.
We hope to hear from you if you can help - via Facebook, WhatsApp or leaving your name/details with the school reception
