Bloomingdale Avenue School
Hello Bloomingdale Families,
Thank you for all of your support this week in recognizing October as the month of Respect. On Wednesday, for Unity Day we wore orange to show kindness, acceptance, and that we are creating an environment where everyone feels safe. It is also that time of the year in which we start seeing Halloween activities in our classrooms to engage students in learning certain aspects of our curriculum including identifying character traits by reading "Anatomy of Crankenstein" and creating witches using symbols to represent information. You will also see that this past Monday, students also learned about Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day. Students in Mrs. LoGiudice-Alfano's class worked on posters to hang around BAS focusing on how to be good citizens while here at school.
We also held our first yoga session during recess earlier today for Full Day Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade. Through a partnership with the PTA, we have provided a yoga mat to each student to use during these sessions. As part of these sessions, students are learning different poses for their age level, breathing techniques that help keep their mind, and body calm.
I also would like to thank the PTA and families for our first Pretzel Sale fundraiser of the year. It was so much fun seeing students grab a pretzel with a friend and enjoy some extra time with their peers. We hope you continue to enjoy our pretzel sales each month!
Finally, I hope to see you all at the BAS & OAS 5K this Sunday whether as a participant or cheering on a participant! Thank you to both the BAS & OAS PTAs for organizing this amazing event.
Take care Bloomingdale,
Mr. Litz and the BAS Staff
Spooky!

October is the Month of Respect
BAS Families,
We continue to recognize October as National Bullying Prevention Month. Throughout the month, we are focusing on the theme of Respect: respect for others, respect for self, and respect at school. Students can choose to participate in a school-wide collaborative mural to celebrate our differences, students will learn about the difference between bullying and conflict, there will be special announcements throughout the month, and we will end October with a fun Spirit Week! Also, during our Bloomingdale Gathering today, students reviewed and discussed the No Place For Hate pledge as part of our No Place for Hate initiative.
