Welcome to Week Five!
Hello Brahma Parents & Guardians,
Hope you had a nice three-day weekend and were able to stay cool in the record setting heat!
Recently, our State adopted a new “Blue Print for a Safer Economy” establishing a color-coded guide by county to determine allowable activities. In this tiered system, our color (Purple) does not allow schools to open. While our campus remains closed, you may hear about other schools reopening. We will be closely monitoring other Districts which have been authorized to reopen to improve our reopening plans. Please click HERE to monitor our County’s progress.
This week we are kicking-off our Wellness Wednesday activity in addition to many other Social Emotional Learning (SEL) resources mentioned below. Scroll down for more information on how to stay connected.

DBHS SCHOOL CALENDAR
Our Distance Learning calendar is subject to change as we respond to the Health Department guidelines and mandates.
Bell Schedule
DBHS SCHOOL BELL SCHEDULE
According to State Assembly Bill 77, Distance Learning is 240 instructional minutes per day.
We meet everyday for six (6) forty (40) minute class periods.

CSF Peer (Virtual) Tutoring is here!
2:30 PM – 4:00 PM Monday – Thursday.
All students who plan to attend tutoring will need to fill out a waiver and RSVP 24 hours in advance.

*New! Wellness Wednesdays
Wellness Wednesdays will take place during tutorial time each week. Through videos and/or live sessions our Wellness Team (Peer Counselors, Wellness Interns, GLCs, School Psychologists, SEL Teacher Team, USB) will provide tools, resources, and strategies for SEL.
We care about our students and their feelings. We want to connect with them and also provide opportunities to connect with other students. Students will find Wellness Wednesday information via Grade Level Google Classroom, Instagram (DBHS_events; dbhswellness) and the DBHS main webpage under Reminders.

This Week is National Suicide Prevention Week
Brahmas, during this week of National Suicide Prevention Week, we are reaching out because you matter and to let you know that we are here for you. We also want to remind you that you are our "eyes and ears" and to continue to reach out to us (your GLC) if you are concerned about someone.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) is promoting #BeThe1To as their message for National Suicide Prevention Month and beyond in order to spread the word about actions we can all take to prevent suicide.

The mission of Sunshine is to brighten the lives of pediatric cancer patients while raising childhood cancer awareness. We host a multitude of events both in and out of the hospital and have helped thousands of patients and raised tens of thousands of dollars. We hope to reach more patients and offer even more volunteer opportunities this upcoming year!! You won’t regret joining us!! California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is a statewide service organization that provides students with a myriad of service opportunities. By promoting high standards of scholarship and service, CSF enriches the community and ensures a common well-being of the surrounding environment. DBHS CSF is one the school's largest clubs with over 200 members. Qualified members excel academically and exhibit the traits of perseverance and dedication.

We have almost 50 Candidates running for office for the four Grade levels! Each Candidate's information is being shared in your child's Grade Level Google Classroom. The voting ballots are out, including videos of of the candidate's speeches.
Please encourage your child to vote. Voting opens Wednesday, September 9 and closes Friday, September 11. Make sure your child's voice is heard!

Applications for the United Student Body are available online now. Do you want to run for Executive Board? Would you like to apply to be a United Student Body Commissioner. You may access all of the applications by clicking HERE. Executive Board Applications are due on September 24, 2020. Commissioner Applications are due October 2, 2020.
DBHS ATHLETICS - UPDATES
PREPARATION FOR RETURN TO ATHLETICS
WVUSD is currently working on an action plan for student-athletes to return to campus in phases, following LA County/NFHS/CIF/State guidelines to ensure the safety of your child and family. Implementing this plan is based on our current COVID situation and LA County Health Department.ATHLETICS CLEARANCE
In preparation for the possibility of athletics to commence, please ensure your child is athletically cleared. Student-athletes that are not cleared will not be able to participate in athletics. Specific athletic instruction can be found HERE.
