McClure Messages
October 7 - 11 and 15 - 18
We are looking forward to a relatively quiet October these next few weeks. I hope you also have a chance to slow down and settle into the fall weather after a busy September. Have a wonderful fall weekend!
Parent Education Speaker
Thank you to everyone who came to our evening presentation on cyber safety from Karilyn Orr from the Attorney General's Office.
If you were not able to attend the event, you can view the slides here and hear an audio recording of the presentation here.
October is Bullying Prevention Month
On October 16th the Unity Club in conjunction with our school counselor, Mrs. Beilfuss, are hosting Unity Day. Unity Day is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. By wearing orange on this day students can join in and send a message of commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention. Students will also hear information about Unity Day and bullying prevention through our morning announcements and 10th period.
Veteran's Day
If you are a Veteran yourself OR have a family member, neighbor, or close friend who is a Veteran, we would love to honor them on November 11th by inviting them to attend our District Veteran's Day assembly, hosted at McClure this year. Please share the RSVP link below with veterans to attend. Alternatively, interested honorees can email Principal Laura Broadnax at lbroadnax@d101.org to RSVP as well. We ask that EACH veteran complete the form below AND include a picture (in uniform if possible). We invite all honorees to attend a welcome reception on November 11th at 9:30AM and then stay to be honored at our All School Assembly at 10:00AM here at McClure. All honorees are welcome to bring one guest to attend as well.
Additionally, if you were a veteran or there are veterans in your family who will not be able to attend, please fill out form below so McClure may honor those individuals in our photo collage.
If you know multiple veterans, you may submit the form multiple times - one for each individual.
RSVPS & PHOTO SUBMISSIONS DUE FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1.
Ordering School Photos
We've gotten a few questions about how to order school photos. About 2-3 weeks after your child's yearbook photo was taken, Van Gogh sends proofs to school. We distribute the proofs to students in their 10th period classes. Within that package you will receive instructions, including the needed code, from Van Gogh on how to order photos online. 8th grade students will receive proofs this coming Monday.
If your child missed picture day or needs a retake our picture retake day is Tuesday, November 12.
Investment Club
Investment Club is organized by one of our former students, who is now a senior at LT and the president of the Investment Club at LT. This year we've revamped the schedule to be a tighter timeline with a weekly meeting. Students interested in the markets and investing can come and learn as they play out an investing scenario with a team. Students can form teams of 3-4 before the meeting, or come to the meting and join a team.

McClure Student/Parent Handbook
The Student/Parent Handbook is a great place to go as a first stop for questions you might have about the day to day operations and policies at McClure.
This week's highlight: Impact of School Absences
Regular attendance at school has benefits well beyond the academic. When students are at school they have the full opportunity to learn social skills, practice academic content, and be a vital part of their classroom communities. Every effort should be made to prioritize regular attendance at school. Students who are on track to miss more than 10% of the school year (~18 days, or more than 2 days per month) are required to be submitted in our state reporting and will receive communication from the Main Office. Attendance is calculated by minutes; missing one period per day for 10 days is equal to missing a full day of school.
Send a Note of Thanks
There is nothing that feeds a teacher's soul more than a thank you. If at any point you'd like to send a teacher or staff member a note of appreciation, this is one way to acknowledge the way they have positively impacted you or your child's experience at McClure. Click the button below to go to a quick form and the staff member will receive your note on a lovely digital stationary in their inbox.

Informational Meeting on Western Springs Caucus to be Held Tuesday, October 8 at 7:00 pm at McClure Junior High School
A small group comprising former Village Trustees and Board members is conducting an informational meeting regarding our village’s caucus system of government at McClure Junior High on Tuesday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting will last for only a half hour or so.
The sole purpose is to acquaint residents regarding this type of one-party government structure whose primary purpose is to attract and endorse volunteers for various positions to ensure our governing system operates without political posturing. All residents of 18 years of age or older are, in fact, members of the caucus and eligible to vote for such positions as Village President, Village Trustees, Village Clerk as well as positions on both the Library and Park Boards.
According to presenters of the meeting, the challenge for the past several years has been to connect with residents, particularly those who have moved here during the past 10-15 years and likely have little or no idea what the caucus is and how it operates. Attendees will leave with an understanding as to how the system works to keep our village government strong and efficient.
