WHPE Update April 2023
"Good to Grow"
Good to Grow:
Greetings WHPE Members,
Welcome to the month of April! As the spring season starts to emerge I hope this message finds you well and excited for the warmer weather and all the opportunities for outdoor activities it brings, or at the very least shoveled out from our latest April snowstorm.
April is National Volunteer Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible impact that volunteers have on our communities. This month, I want to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to all the volunteers on our WHPE board who selflessly give their time and energy to make our organization one of the best in the US. As well as those who volunteer their time for SHAPE Midwest and SHAPE National. Thank you!
Volunteering is not only a way to give back to communities, but it also has numerous benefits for the volunteers themselves. Volunteering can help boost mental and physical well being, provide opportunities to learn new skills and gain valuable experience, and create a sense of purpose and fulfillment. It just makes you feel good about yourself.
Throughout the month, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference. Whether you're volunteering at a local food bank, organizing a school/park cleanup, or mentoring a young person, every act of service counts and contributes to the greater good.
I challenge you to grow this month by finding a cause or organization that you're passionate about and give of your time. I realize that educators and coaches don’t often have a lot of extra free time, however every little bit counts.
There are many organizations and nonprofits that are in need of volunteers, and your time and effort can truly make a difference. Maybe you consider looking into a service learning project for your community through our WHPE Game On initiative. See the SMORE for more information.
Thank you to all the volunteers who have already made a difference, and to those who are just starting on their volunteer journey. Let's continue to work together to make our extended WHPE communities stronger and more resilient.
Wishing you a happy and healthy spring season!
