Board Recap December 17, 2024
Regular Meeting of Board of Trustees
Superintendent Announcements
I have seen the dedication and efforts of our faculty firsthand this semester, not just in the work of our students but also through our Triad support meetings. I have personally joined several members of our district leadership for nearly 60 meetings facilitated by our principals; other staff members, including Dr. Jason Mummert and Ms. Monica Lyons, have attended more. These meetings allow our Central Office team to help support each school as they work to meet their campus improvement plan goals.
I would also like to thank our community members, staff, and the Board of Trustees for participating in our recent Strategic Planning Task Force meeting. We are grateful for your time, support, and ideas as we work together to make Seguin ISD a great learning organization for our students, families, and community. It takes all of us.
Looking back over the weeks since our last board meeting, we have had a whirlwind of events around our district. Hopefully, you have been able to attend one of the many performances at our schools or in the community over the past few weeks. Our students and staff have worked hard; thanks to our families and community for supporting them.
I was in the audience for last night's Matador Mariachi Holiday Concert. The event included ballet folklórico dancers and mariachi musicians. I loved seeing our students sing, play, dance, and shine. Congratulations to everyone involved.
This past weekend, students from each of our elementary schools performed with the Mid-Texas Symphony as the Seguin ISD Children’s Chorus. We are Matador proud of their performance and that of our fine arts teachers for their time and dedication. Our director of fine arts, Mr. Marc Telles (aka Santa Claus), was also invited to serve as a guest conductor at Sunday’s concert.
I’d also like to congratulate our choir and band students who will audition for the Area Choir and Area Band in Austin next month. These students have already been successful at the district and region levels, and we are excited to have them continue to represent Seguin ISD.
We also have some very talented visual artists among our students, and their art is front and center on our holiday cards. Students from Vogel, Patlan, Barnes, Briesemeister, and Seguin High School have their artwork printed on the cards that will go out across our community. Congratulations to all six students!
Since our last board meeting, we celebrated 18 students who graduated from Mercer-Blumberg Learning Center on December 3rd. Their graduation is a wonderful achievement and a testament to the great work of the students and faculty.
Barnes Middle School had 60 - yes, 6-0 - take the F-A-A recreational drone pilot test with a 100 percent passing rate! All U.S. recreational drone pilots must pass this exam. Congratulations to our Barnes 8th grade Robotics and Engineering students and their teacher, Mr. Troy DePalermo.
Best of luck to the Seguin High School basketball teams! They will continue playing games over the break. We know you will represent your school and our district well. I’d also like to add 'break a leg' to the casts and crews of “Alice in Wonderland” and the Christmas play at AJB, both performing this week.
As we prepare for the Christmas break, I want to remind and thank our students, teachers, and staff of the Matador Mindset. We are one team, learning together and elevating excellence. It has been a challenging semester, and this is a much-needed break. I hope everyone can be with their loved ones this holiday season, get some rest, and come back ready for 2025."

Superintendent’s Apple Award
Cindy Cramer, Recipient of the Superintendent Apple Award for December 2024
This month’s recipient was described not only as the heart of their campus but as the backbone and the glue that holds it together. We also received several other words for this person: efficient, hardworking, determined, caring, passionate, understanding, dedicated, generous, and loving.
This beloved co-worker, sister, daughter, and aunt is not from Seguin, but it seems she got here as fast as she could, having attended the former Texas Lutheran College. She worked for one company for 25 years before joining Seguin ISD.
Over the last 17 years, she has helped keep campuses running smoothly as a campus secretary for six different principals - no doubt a challenging task, but one she has mastered. Her current principal says she could not do the job without her!
Other staff members at her campus say her dedication and passion shine through in all that she does, and her tireless efforts have a positive impact on the lives of others. They also say she is “organized to the hilt” and helps organize activities and events on campus, makes their days brighter, and is like a mother to many. Even substitute teachers reach out to let her know how they are doing!
I am sure I can speak for everyone when I say our district is better for having her on our team, helping our staff, students, and their families. What a gift to have someone so beloved, who truly has a servant’s heart on staff at Ball Early Childhood Center.
I am honored to introduce this month’s Superintendent Apple Award recipient, Cindy Cramer."
