St Joseph's Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 3.5.24
This week...
I will be very honest here - it's been a very busy week and I almost didn't make it to Mass on Wednesday. I had lots of other deadlines and considered staying behind to finish them instead. I am so glad, though, that I took the time out to accompany our children and celebrate St Joseph's Feast Day in Church.
It was a very special occasion and I sat there feeling very proud of our lovely children and wonderful school, as they enthusiastically embraced the various parts of Mass. The glorious singing is always a highlight! Thank you to Mr Barnes for accompanying us so skilfully!
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue - Perseverance / Resilience
It's been our final week of focusing on the virtue of perseverance/resilience. We see this so often throughout school (in both children, families and staff!). Our St Therese Class showed this virtue beautifully this week in their skipping PE lesson. Their determination to keep going was incredible and a real credit to our school.
Mark Lishman
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mark Lishman.
Mark was a wonderful father and will be sorely missed.
We ask you to please keep Sophie and the Lishman family in your prayers at this very difficult time.
St Joseph's Day!
This Wednesday, we celebrated the Feast Day of our patron saint, St Joseph the Worker. We all attended Mass in our local Church, and sang about Joseph!
We learned about St Joseph's strong work ethic; how God gave him the strength to do wonderful things; and how our work can have amazing results when we trust in God too!
Giant African Land Snails
We have some very exciting new members of St Nicholas Class... we have 11 teeny tiny little snails, which will hopefully grow with us over the year.
Ms Nihill has even promised that I'm allowed to bring one to live in my office! How exciting!
Request - gardening canes
We would appreciate any donations of gardening canes! If you have any going spare, please contact the school office. Thank you in advance!
Ascension Mass
You are warmly invited to join us at our whole school celebration of Ascension Mass next Thursday at 11am in Church. Our children will be leading the readings, bidding prayers and offertory procession.
Please remember that you do NOT need to be Catholic to join us in Church - people of all or no faiths are very much welcomed!
We look forward to seeing you there!
End of Year Dates
Please see below for our upcoming dates. We have now scheduled dates for our Sports Day, St Therese End of Year Production and Leavers' Assembly.
Parking and playground
We have received some reports about families parking on double-yellow lines outside school. Please make sure we are driving sensibly (and legally!) to set a good example to our children and keep them safe.
Can we please ask that you keep an eye on your children at the end of the day, as we have noticed a few children walking along the wall, which is a safety concern. Thank you!
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 92.9%
It's a shame that our attendance has dropped again this week.
Please continue to support us in getting the best for our children! We value the time they spend with us in school, and evidence shows us that every minute really does count!
We have been learning...
St Nicholas (Nursery)
This week we have been reading the book, 'Guess How Much I Love You' by Sam McBratney.
We have enjoyed baking yummy rabbit biscuits to link with our story!
St Francis (Preschool/Reception)
We enjoyed a Cosmic Kids Yoga session in St Francis this week. Not only does this help with our coordination and flexibility, but it also encourages mindfulness and we get to follow a fun story throughout the session too! So much fun!
St Bernadette (Y1/Y2)
In Science, we investigated different materials and their stretchiness and flexibility. We had 2 minutes to conduct 4 different tests on each material. We did things like pulled them, cut them and seeing if they could fold. We found out a lot!
St Patrick (Y3/Y4)
In RE this week, we have been learning about Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit. We reflected on this using mind maps and prayer.
We have also finished our stories based on The Great Chocoplot. We have worked very hard on our publishing!
St Therese (Y5/Y6)
This week in PE, we have been developing our skipping skills. Some of us have learned to skip for the first time, while others have learned to double-bounce or double skip, skip in a pair, backwards, or hopping from leg to leg whilst skipping. Whatever it was we learned, we all had a great time and we all learned to do something new!

Friends of St Joseph's
Last week's fruit kebab Treat Friday was a great success! Who knew the healthiest of treat Fridays would be the most popular?! Thanks to all that supported this and extra big thanks go to Sainsbury’s in Tadcaster, who very generously donated all the fruit and kebab sticks.
Letters about the school disco will be coming home in bags this evening, so please do keep an eye out for them and return them (with parent pay options) by the 15th May. This is the first school disco we have held in a long time, so we are looking forward to it!
