Quarter 1 Grades

Quarter One Grades have been finalized and are available for your viewing on Infinite Campus.

This fall teachers have worked hard to ensure that grades are not only viewable on Canvas but can also be seen on Infinite Campus throughout the quarter. Because this is a new process you may notice some inconsistencies or discrepancies reflected between Canvas and IC. If this happens, please allow until Monday, Nov 11 before contacting your student’s teacher for clarification. As always feel free to contact me directly, susan.lehna@isd709.org

OEMS Mock Election

Such a fun way to spend #election day 2024! OEMS Social Studies department organized a mock election & led many activities to prepare our students. Thanks to our Administrators, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Mayor, City Council, OEMS Student Council, and parents who helped run our polling location! We counted 1,200 ballots after school and will go over results in class.

make a secure online donation. Choose your student’s grade and donate. The grade with the most

donations will win a class prize!

● In Person: Drop off your donation at the front office. Checks can be made out to "Ordean East

PTA."

Show School Pride: Purchase spirit wear for your student and yourself! The Fall Spirit Wear sale has

been extended; you have until midnight on Sunday, Nov 3rd to get your orders in. Check out the stickers,

cross body bags, hats, hoodies and more in the online store. (bit.ly/3YjCsct) Proceeds support the work of the PTA.

In-Person Volunteering: We have many in-person or in-kind volunteering options as well. Read the

Classroom Happenings

Pen Pals

Ms. Lussier's reading and writing strategies class has been sending letters to pen pals across the United States!

Outdoor Education

This semester, students in Ms. Gilsvik's Exploring Outdoor Education classes have been learning about orienteering, geocaching, mountain biking and canoeing. Last week, they took a field trip to Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center for a day of outdoor learning. At Boulder Lake, students were able to go hiking, canoeing, and portaging. They also learned about the local geology, Voyageurs and the fur trade. Great fun was had by all!

Three Sisters Garden AREA

In Ms. Vang's AREA students have been creating videos to introduce the Three Sisters Garden (Corn, Beans, Squash). The Three Sisters Garden is a companion garden that many native people use when planting these foods together. On Wednesday 11/7, students were finishing up their work and created seed art.

Garden Crew

Garden Crew had their last meeting for the fall session on Monday, November 4th. Students had a celebration of making salsa, all ingredients from the school garden! Thank you for all of your hard work Crew Members! Thank you to Ms. Anderson, Ms. Christensen, and Ms. Vang for advising the club. BIG thank you to Renee Willemsen, the Farm to School Coordinator, for planning and educating students throughout the spring, summer, and fall!

History Day Club

History Day students continue to meet after school Thursdays in Mrs. Vang's room (3133). In the second session of AREA (starting November 20th) we will meet during the school day in Mr. Schmitz's room. 4-H Saturday Programming
