New Units:
Blue Gold: The Value of Water
“Water is our most precious resource, a ‘Blue Gold’ to which more than 2 billion people do not have direct access. It is not only essential for survival, but also plays a sanitary, social and cultural role at the heart of human societies,” – Audrey Azoulay.
In this unit, you will think like scientists testing and designing ways to filter, treat, and conserve water. We will review safe ways to improve our environment's water quality and the process water goes through before it comes out of our faucets. We will tour our local Waste Water Treatment Plant which specializes in the treatment and purification of water.
Viking Age
Students will learn about the historical significance of the Viking Age, including the reasons behind their raids, the extent of their exploration, and their impact on medieval Europe. They will also explore the cultural and technological advancements of the Vikings, such as their ship-building techniques and the establishment of trade routes.
Weaving: An Ancient Art Form
Weaving is one of the oldest and most storied artforms in human history. From Ancient Egypt to Mexico, North America to Persia, even as far back as the stone age, there are documented remnants of the textile industry. We will learn a little of the history of weaving while practicing various techniques using multiple materials to create beautiful projects from wall hangings to coasters.
