A Note From The Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Tomorrow is the end of the first quarter! Report cards will go home next week. On Monday, we will celebrate our first quarter Hilltopper Awards. Hilltopper Awards are awarded by classroom teachers quarterly to students who have demonstrated our Topper Traits (Taking Responsibility, Offering Kindness, and Persevering) over the last nine weeks. Parents have been invited to attend the awards ceremony by your child's teacher. Keep up the great work!
Please remember to sign up for conferences with your child's teacher. We have 3 available dates - November 7, 14, and 21 - and look forward to meeting with you to discuss your students' progress. Click HERE to sign up for conferences.
Thanks and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mathew Prezioso

It's SOCK-tober!
As you may remember, we have been focusing on promoting KINDNESS at Munson this year, because offering kindness is something that EVERYONE can do! Our school counselor, Mrs. Barnett, has given us a very exciting Kindness Challenge for October - it's SOCK-tober! All month long, Munson will be collecting new pairs of kids socks to donate to Geauga County Job & Family Services.
Our schoolwide goal is to collect 300 pairs of new socks! There are collection boxes here at school, and the grade level that donates the MOST pairs of socks will win a popcorn party! Let's show just how KIND Munson can be by meeting the SOCK-tober Challenge!
Help Munson Honor and Thank Our Veterans!
We are planning our Veterans Day (Week!) activities for the week of November 11-15. There will be many different opportunities for students and families to participate in honoring our country's veterans.
Stockings for Soldiers
Please return the participation form you received by Monday, October 28 if you and your child are planning to fill and return a stocking. They will be sent home in early November.
Veterans Visit
Our veterans visit will be on Monday, November 11. If you are a veteran, or have a veteran family member who is willing to come on that day to share some of their military experiences with the students, please return the form with their information by Monday, October 28.
Veterans Wall of Honor
All students will have an opportunity to honor a special veteran in their lives by filling out a little information about them with you at home and sharing a picture they draw or a copy of a photograph of that person. These will be displayed in our hallway to honor our family heroes during the week.
Penny Wars
This is one of our most popular Veterans Day activities! We donate the funds generated by Penny Wars to the Geauga County Veterans Food Pantry and other local veterans groups. More information will be coming, but start saving your pennies now!
Activity Sheets
Veteran themed activity sheets will be coming home for your child to do with you at home and return to school for a small prize.
Field of Flags
We are in the process of completing our Field of Flags for the DAV, and will have our field set up prior to Veterans Day. We are very close to, but have not quite met our goal. If you haven't donated and it is a cause you would like to support, please consider donating now by visiting Munson Elementary's DAV Donations page. The deadline to donate is October 23! Thank you for your support!
Save the Date - Music Concerts!
Please save the dates for our music performances this year! Second and third grade will perform on Tuesday, December 10 at 6pm (3rd grade) and 7:15pm (2nd grade). First grade will perform on Tuesday, April 15 at 7:15pm. All performances will be held in the Park Elementary School auditorium. Many more details will be shared as the dates get closer!
Summer School 2025
Chardon Schools' summer school is tentatively scheduled for June 2-20, 2025. The 3rd grade summer AIR test (for students that did not achieve the required passing score during the school year) will be June 23-27, 2025.

Book Fair - October 21-24!
The Book Fair is back! We are so excited to bring back the Literati Book Fair to Munson this fall.
When is the Book Fair? Students will shop during their class's library time the week of October 21-25.
- We will also be open for parent/family shopping on Thursday, October 24 from 4-6pm.
- We will have a makeup shopping day on Friday, October 25 for any student that missed their shopping time due to absence.
- Online shopping is also available now through October 25! Click HERE and search for Munson Elementary to browse the catalog and make online purchases.
Why shop at the Book Fair? Besides the obvious - books, books, and more books! - Munson will earn rewards for every purchase! Mrs. Rohrich will then use those rewards to buy more amazing books and materials for our school library!
How do we pay? You can send cash to school with your child (please put in a sealed, labeled bag or envelope), or gift cards are available for purchase on our book fair website, linked above. Literati gift cards do not expire, and can be used online year-round, or rolled over to be used at future book fairs!
How can I help? We need volunteers to help set up and tear down, and people to help students shop. If you're interested in volunteering to help at the Book Fair, please click HERE to sign up!
Fall Parties and Parade - October 31!
We will have class Fall Parties along with our annual costume parade on Thursday, October 31! (Alternative activities will be provided for any student that can not participate.)
PARADE INFO
ONLY PTO-assigned volunteers will be permitted in classrooms for the parties, but ALL parents are welcome to watch the costume parade. The parade will begin at 2:30pm; if weather permits, we will go outside and parade in front of the school. If the weather does NOT cooperate, parents may sit in the bleachers in the gym and students will parade there. Anyone watching the parade should park across the street at the church.
COSTUMES & PARTY INFO
Students should NOT wear their costumes to school in the morning, but bring them in a bag. Please make sure your child can put their costume on and take it off independently. There will not be time to apply any costume makeup, and no full face masks or weapons are permitted. As previously mentioned, ONLY PTO-assigned volunteers will be permitted in classrooms for the parties. The PTO has contacted all party volunteers.
Please contact the Munson PTO at munsonelementarypto@gmail.com with any questions about the Fall Parties!
