Celebrating the Service of Our School Board Members
Public service is often time-consuming and challenging, yet it holds the power to create meaningful change and leave a lasting impact on the community. Our School Board members embody this dedication. Some of them are longtime Byron residents who have witnessed the district's evolution and joined the Board to give back. While a typical School Board term spans four years, some members served two-year terms due to prior Board resignations.
This Monday’s School Board meeting will mark the final meeting for three of our dedicated members: Duane Quam, Heather Holmes, and Matt Prigge. Duane and Heather have served on the Board for two years, while Matt has contributed an impressive 20 years of service.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their unwavering commitment to our schools and community. Their efforts, especially during challenging times, have been invaluable. They have actively listened to community and staff feedback, made thoughtful decisions to support our district's growth, and demonstrated exceptional leadership. Much of their work happens behind the scenes, yet the positive impact of their contributions is felt throughout the district.
As they step away from the Board, we wish them all the best in their future endeavors. On behalf of our school and the community, thank you for your dedication and service. You truly made a difference!

Inclement Weather Notification
Living in Minnesota, we know the snow and cold are inevitable. As winter storms or bitterly cold temperatures approach, our priority is always the safety of our students and staff. When deciding whether to hold school, we carefully consider if our buses can safely transport students. For extreme cold, we evaluate the wind and windchill to ensure everyone can travel safely.
If you ever feel it’s unsafe for your child to attend school, we understand and respect your decision. Please remember to call the school office to inform them if your child will be staying home.
This winter, Byron Schools will once again utilize E-Learning days if we need to cancel school due to inclement weather. Each school has its own schedule for these online learning days, so please look for specific instructions from your child’s school or teacher when they arise.
How We’ll Notify You:
- Notifications will be sent via email, text, and phone call.
- School closings will also be posted on all local TV stations.
- We aim to notify families by 5:45 AM, understanding that some families head out early to Project Kids. During these announcements, we’ll also share any changes to Project Kids hours.
We understand that school closings or delays can be challenging for families, and these decisions are never made lightly. We truly appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we navigate Minnesota’s unpredictable winter weather together.
Stay warm, and thank you for being part of our Byron community!
Santa Comes To Town
One of the great traditions for Byron Community Education is Breakfast With Santa. This weekend proved no different for this event. More than 300 people enjoyed a great waffle breakfast and the kids were able to give Santa their lists. Thank you to the Community Education staff for helping with this event.
