April 2024
A Word From Our Principal
Hello Again,
We are now in the home stretch of the school year. In the month of April we have a strong focus around our standardized testing. We will be giving the MCA tests in the middle of April to the 10th and 11th grade students as well as the ACT test on April 23rd. These tests are critical as a system measure on our progress as a school and helps identify academic areas that we need to improve upon as a building and classroom levels. We will be sending out a lot of communications this month around testing and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

MCA Testing
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Fridley 11th graders will be taking the MCA Math test on April 15 & 16 in the high school auditorium. Students whose last name starts with A-J will test on Monday April 15. Last names that start with K-Z will test on Tuesday April 16.
Fridley 10th graders will take the MCA Reading test on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17 & 18. Students with last names A-J will test on April 17 and students with last names K-Z will test on April 18.
Make up exams will take place on Friday, April 19.
All juniors, and seniors who are currently taking DP Biology will take the MCA science during the week of April 29.
There are several reasons why we at Fridley High School recommend students take the MCAs. First, these exams provide a measure of academic proficiency in key subjects such as math, reading, and science, helping to assess students' strengths and areas needing improvement. Next, MCA scores can influence decisions regarding academic placement, ensuring students receive appropriate support or enrichment. Some MCA scores will qualify students for Concurrent Enrollment courses and college placement exams. Additionally, MCA results are often used by schools and districts to evaluate their effectiveness and identify areas for curriculum enhancement or instructional focus. Finally, participation in these statewide assessments contributes to the larger educational accountability system, providing insights into the overall performance of Minnesota's education system and informing policy decisions aimed at improving student outcomes.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming MCAs please contact Jim Cummings, Academic Dean at cummings@isd14.org, or 763-502-5617.
