Board Meeting Summary 5/13/2024
- Becky Hansen, Executive Director of Business Services and Sustainability, presented the proposed Student Fee Schedule for the 2024-25 school year. She indicated that the majority of fees did not change. Those that increased include locks at the Intermediate level; adult athletic fees; Pro-Start 2 Foods, Printing, Driver's Education, yearbook fees, and parking at KHS. The most notable increase is the High School Parking fee, which has not increased in many years and remains significantly lower than surrounding districts. The increase was necessary due to the cost the District has incurred over the last few years for rent and snowplowing of additional lots in order to offer parking for more students. The Board approved the proposed fees for the 2024-25 school year.
- Kevin Franz, Facilities Director, presented the 10-year Capital Improvement plan. One of the highlights was completing installation of LED lighting. Franz demonstrated a savings of $7,000 at Woodland School and $5,300 at Westside Elementary due to the new lighting. He also presented an overview of the upcoming 2024-25 projects, and a long-term, 10-year projection of improvements and facilities maintenance. The Board approved the plan and congratulated the District on maintaining all facilities at a high level.
- The Board approved contracts for Sara Grinde, Special Education Teacher at Janssen Elementary School; Austin Burmeister, Dean of Students at J.R. Gerritts Middle School; Olivia Engman, Special Education Teacher at Janssen Elementary School; Kara Hoppe, Special Education Teacher at Woodland Intermediate School; Samuel Schultz, Social Studies Teacher at Kimberly High School; and Sara DeGroot, Math Teacher at Kimberly High School, all effective August 20, 2024. The resignation of Zach Loveisky, Math Teacher at Kimberly High School, was also approved, effective June 6, 2024.
- The Board convened in closed session to discuss Lamers' Bussing contract negotiations and Superintendent contract and evaluation.
- Upon returning to open session the Board approved an additional increase to the Lamers Transportation contract for 2023-24 and 2024-25, and an extension of the contract for 2 additional years.
Kimberly High School Student Colton Pozniak Earned a Perfect Score on the ACT
Colton Pozniak, son of Jeffrey and Jennifer Pozniak, and a junior at Kimberly High School (KHS), has earned something extraordinary - a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. Nationally, the average is less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn the top score.
"It's a great accomplishment for me and I know my family is proud," said Colton. "I look forward to the doors it'll open up, and I'm glad that my work has paid off."
The ACT consists of english, mathematics, reading, and science tests. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four test scores.
ACT test scores are accepted by all major U.S. colleges. Exceptional scores of 36 provide colleges with evidence of student readiness for the academic rigors that lie ahead. Following high school, Colton plans to attend a 4-year college and pursue a career in engineering.
Westside Elementary Holds Annual Career Day
As part of the District's Career Planning process, Westside Elementary students recently had the chance to hear from local professionals during their annual Career Day. Students were able to rotate between several interactive presentations that offered a glimpse into different careers. The career clusters were well represented with 29 professionals speaking on engineering, manufacturing, healthcare, public safety, real estate, finance and even national security. Beyond sparking career aspirations, Career Day also aimed to foster community engagement. Parents, family, and community members volunteered their time and expertise as presenters, giving our students valuable firsthand insight. Many thanks to all who shared their time to talk about their career field with the students!
