Chelmer Valley High School Monologue & Duologue Slam
On Thursday 2nd March, Chelmer Valley High School hosted their first Monologue & Duologue Slam where students from years 7, 8 and 9 prepared a speech or small performance to be shown in front of a panel of judges. However, it was not only students from CVHS who participated, we were also accompanied by staff and students from St John Payne who also prepared a unique variety of monologues and duologues.
It was absolutely wonderful to witness such a vast range of students participating in this event and taking the time and effort to learn their monologues/duologues in their own time. The dedication from students across both schools it breath-taking.Students from both schools were incredibly supportive of one another, cheering and whooping at the end of each performance as a sign of respect, encouragement and motivation.
At the end of the evening 3 awards were given out; best monologue, best duologue and overall best performance. St John Payne were given the award for best monologue and duologue. However, Ruby in 8C was awarded ‘best overall performance’ with her dramatic interpretation of a monologue from the very famous play Girls Like That. The entire evening was a huge success and this slam event will most definitely return in the years to come.

ENGLISH WALL OF FAME WINNERS
Charlotte Aston (7B1) created an incredibly creepy spell based on the one performed by the three witches in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Well done for including some very gruesome ingredients!
Year 9 have been studying Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew and were tasked with creating a mask to reflect the character of either Katherina or Petruchio. The class had to pay particular attention to the colours and images they used and what they symbolised.
Polly Wraight (9X1) created a fantastic mask reflecting the character of Petruchio. Well done!
