A Message from Mrs. Booth...
Another Parent Book Club Opportunity
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with all the parents out there! We’re launching another Book Club opportunity just for you. And guess what? This year, our Book Club is going district-wide, spanning all six elementary buildings!
Our elementary principals have been diving into an amazing book called “Good Inside” by Dr. Becky Kennedy (also known as “Dr. Becky” to her followers). In this book, Dr. Becky shares her parenting philosophy along with practical strategies. These strategies will help parents move away from uncertainty and self-blame, and toward confidence and effective leadership.
As parents, we’ve all tried various techniques that sometimes just don’t seem to work. From reward charts to time-outs, many popular parenting approaches focus on shaping behavior rather than nurturing the whole child. But kids need more than behavior modification—they need skills for life and understanding of their complex emotional needs. It’s no wonder that many caretakers feel overwhelmed and worried they might be falling short.
“Good Inside” offers a fresh perspective on parenting principles. It tackles specific scenarios like sibling rivalry, separation anxiety, and tantrums. This book is a comprehensive resource for parents who are seeking a new way to raise their kids—one that fosters self-regulation, confidence, and resilience for a lifetime.
Now, mark your calendars! Our Book Club meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2024, at 6:30 PM. We’ll gather in the Ridge Wood Elementary Library. Everyone who’s interested is welcome to join us for some lively conversation about this thought-provoking book. Whether you’ve read the whole book, part of it, or even just skimmed it, you’re invited!
And here’s a bonus: The first 15 sign-ups at each school will receive a free copy of the book. After that, feel free to purchase the book and join us for the conversation on May 13th! Let’s explore parenting together and discover the “good inside” each of us.
Please click the following link to sign-up: Book Club Sign-Up
Check out the book on Amazon here.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders...
Returning to school after a break is always a good time to review our Drop-off and Pick-Up procedures.
Student safety is very important to us! We have designed our Drop-off and Pick-Up Procedures after carefully considering what is safest for our students and families.
We have noticed that are cars dropping off and picking up in zones that are not pick-up/drop-off zones, and this is putting student and family safety at risk. Please see the map below for the appropriate drop-off and pick-up locations.
- On the map, the appropriate car loop is where you see the blue cars
- The appropriate pick-up and drop-off location is located near the gym doors.
We are also asking that you do not park in the handicap parking spots unless you have the appropriate need to do so. There have been times when the handicap spots have been filled, and a family that needs the space has been unable to access it.
Thank you so much for your understanding and your cooperation!

Multi-Cultural Festival is Coming!!
We are busy planning our annual Multi-Cultural Festival. It has become one of the highlights of every school year. We celebrate and synergize the cultures and heritages that make us who we are. This year's festival will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024. We are hoping to have at least 20 different countries represented.
If you would like to host a country, by yourself or with another family, there will be registration forms coming home in the Monday envelopes or click here.
This is a well-attended, FREE event filled with food, flags, costumes, traditions, entertainment and a fashion show.

2024 MSTEP Electronic Device Use Policy
Cell Phones and Smart Watches are NOT Allowed
As we head into our state testing season, we just wanted to remind you about our cell phone and smartwatch policy. Per District policy, cell phones may NOT be turned on during school hours. They must remain in the student’s backpack. Smartwatches may only be used for telling time, and they may not be worn when students are taking the state (M-STEP) exam. Your child’s teacher will share the days/times that students will be taking the M-STEP exam. We recommend that students do not wear smartwatches on testing days. Classroom teachers will hold all smartwatches until the testing session is complete.
Please note that students who violate the cell phone and smartwatch policy will lose their device. Parents will be asked to pick up the device at the end of the school day.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Do you need more books for your home library? Maybe you want your kids to start thinking about summer reading? We can help with that.
Email Ms. Meisel at meiselki@northvilleschools.org and she will coordinate with your student's teacher a time when they can visit the library to choose from our donated books.
Thanks to our wonderful Silver Springs families, we have received a lot of donated books this year that we would like to pass along to you.

LEADER IN ME FOCUS FOR THE MONTH - HABIT 6 SYNERGIZE
Habit 6: Synergize
What this means: Working together is better. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
“I get along well with other people and work well in groups.”
“I value the strengths of others and allow myself to learn from them.”
“I know that working together as a team we can get more done and come up with better solutions than we could alone.”
“I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems.”
How can I do this in my life?
With your children, choose a problem you may have (like curfew or completing tasks). Use the Synergy Action Plan to summarize your child's solution and your solution: (1) define the problem, (2) share your views, (3) think of solutions, (4) choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution (The High Way) than either of you could come up with alone.

Don’t Scrap the App!
The Michigan School Meals program supplements the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program, meaning that parents of students who would otherwise be eligible for free or reduced meals should continue to submit applications for free or reduced meals for their students. Even though meals will be free this year, it is vitally important that parents who meet, or believe they may meet, the free and reduced income guidelines, submit an application to ensure maximum benefits for their students and the District.
Some of these benefits include: athletics and activities discounts for student fees associated with participating in athletics and activities programs, SAT/ACT/AP test discounts for academic testing, college application discounts for college application fees, discounted internet access services, federal/state/local school funding for school budgets, Summer EBT.
