Roo Report - B2School Edition
From the Desk of Mr. Smith
The 2024-2025 school year is just around the corner. My goal is to provide clear and effective communication throughout the year for all Tison families. We kickoff our communication for the upcoming year with the Roo Report! You can expect to receive a Roo Report every week throughout the school year. At Tison, we assembled the best middle school teaching staff out there! We are excited to introduce you to our amazing staff, both new and returning. This is going to be a great year!
You will find all pertinent information regarding back to school events, new staff, and ways to prepare your child and family for the 2024-2025 school year. We cannot wait to see all of our Tison Roos back on campus in August. We will have four parent/family events throughout the year and I would love to see every family represented. Please know, my door is always open. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to reach out! We need our parents to be involved so our students can be successful.
Go Roos!

Tison PTA
The PTA is the lifeblood of Tison Middle School. The PTA provides support, encouragement, and incentives for students to be successful academically and socially. In addition, the PTA takes care of the staff at Tison with luncheons, funding for necessary classroom items, and much much more. The more parents involved, the more we can get accomplished for our students at staff at Tison Middle School.
**Join the Tison PTA and Make a Difference!**
Starting August 1st, you can join the Tison PTA and become a vital part of our community. Your involvement helps create a stronger bond between our school and families, ensuring our students thrive. One of our most pressing needs is a partnership between the PTA and our athletics teams to establish a concession stand committee. This initiative will not only raise vital funds for our programs but also enhance the game day experience for everyone.
Additionally, you can support our staff and students by contributing to the Tison school supply drive. Check out our links below to find the membership link, school supply drive list and the concession stand crew sign up too.
Let's work together to make a real difference. Join us starting August 1st and help us ensure everyone has what they need for a successful school year.

Cell Phones & Attendance Expectations
As we begin the new school year, all families are reminded of our personal electronic device policy:
Students in Grades 6-8 may use their personal devices during their lunch period only. Students shall not access personal devices during the school day outside of their lunch period. Devices must be on silent and put away in backpacks when students walk into the building. This includes all personal devices. The research shows that students cannot learn when they are receiving numbers notifications throughout the day. Please help our teachers teach and our students learn by supporting the no device policy. Personal electronic devices include, but are not limited to, cell phones, earbuds/headphones, tablets, and smartwatches.
District devices/chromebooks shall be used at the teacher’s discretion during instructional time. Personal headphones or earbuds may be used under staff direction to support classroom instruction only.
We thank you in advance for your partnership. It is our expectation that students and staff value and prioritize instructional time. This includes the elimination distractions, including personal electronic devices. Our commitment to reinforcing expectations at school will promote success and enhance academic engagement for students. Our Code of Conduct is a valuable reference. We appreciate families taking time to review reminders about electronic devices and all expectations outlined within it.
Tison Middle School is committed to preparing students to progress academically, to achieve success and to accept responsibility for themselves. As a part of this commitment, the state of Texas has established attendance performance guidelines for all students.
A few items of note:
1. Illnesses and medical emergencies should not negatively impact a student's grade. However, our school does need to document the steps we take to work with our families; please be sure to submit absence documentation to our attendance clerk, Tracy Griffin.
2. Field trips, Tison activities, and other WISD affiliated events do not count against a student's excused or unexcused absence totals.
3. If you have any questions or concerns regarding student absences, please give our attendance clerk, Tracy Griffin, a call or an email.
At Tison, we believe all students can learn, grow, and be successful. Attendance is a critical component to this success. We urge all families to support their child in attending school each and every day unless they are ill and at risk of spreading illness or making their illness more severe. If we can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Our administrators and counselors are available and willing to help our students be successful in any way possible. Please note, the school day officially begins for all students at 8:05 AM. If they want to eat breakfast, they need to arrive at school no later than 7:45 AM. School will release daily at 3:45 PM.
