Principal Introduction
I want to introduce myself to you. My name is Dr. Kent McCrary and I’m a product of Catoosa County Schools. I attended Cloud Springs Elementary, Lakeview Jr. High, and Lakeview Fort-Oglethorpe High School. Catoosa County Schools prepared me for my future and I work hard everyday trying to do the same for the students of Battlefield Elementary.
I will be starting my twenty-eighth year in education. I started my career teaching seventh grade math at Ringgold Middle School. I then moved to Lakeview Middle and taught seventh and eighth grade math for nine years. I will be starting my fourteenth year at Battlefield, six as assistant principal and seven as principal. I love being a part of this awesome school and look forward to the great things ahead of us.
My wife Carla is a teacher and math coach at Ringgold Elementary. My son Cole graduated from Heritage High School in 2019 and Dalton State in 2023 with a degree in Marketing. He is currently pursuing a degree from UTC in Marketing. My daughter Kailey graduated from Heritage High School in 2023. She is pursuing a Business Degree from Dalton State.
Ms. Bailey and I work hard to give every student the needed skills to be successful adults. We truly believe in “Every Child, Every Day, Without Exception.”
Assistant Principal Introduction
Hi! I’m Jan Bailey, a proud product of Catoosa County with deep roots in our community. My journey began in the familiar halls of Cloud Springs Elementary, Lakeview Middle School, and Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School. Driven by a passion for education, I pursued my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at West Georgia, followed by a Master’s in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University. This December, I will complete my Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University, marking my 21st year in education.
My career began at Woodstation Elementary, where I taught Kindergarten, and since 2013, I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of the Battlefield Elementary School family. Over the years, I’ve taught Kindergarten, third, and fourth grades and have served as an interventionist for grades 3-5.
On a personal note, I’m blessed with two wonderful children who fill my life with joy and energy. My son, Hudson Jax, is five and enjoying Kindergarten, while my daughter, Magnolia Jane, is two and keeps me on my toes!
As I step into my new role as Assistant Principal at Battlefield Elementary School, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, supporting our amazing students, and contributing to our vibrant school community. Here’s to a great year ahead, filled with growth, learning, and shared success!

Morning and Afternoon Traffic
We know the first of school brings heavy traffic around BES in the mornings and afternoons. We know having two schools side by side add more congestion, but we also know it will work it's way out over time. We know you have places to go and we try our best to make our drop off and pick up safe and efficient.
A few ways to help with the traffic issues:
- Please do not block or drive around the sharp curve (behind the ballfield) on the wrong side of the road. This is dangerous and can cause accidents with buses or other cars.
- After you pass the back entrance to BPS, the single lane goes into double lanes to help the traffic flow. Please use the double lanes both morning and afternoon.
- Please make sure your car tag is visible and pull up to your number each afternoon when you are picking up your student. If you do not have a car tag, we will ask you to come in with identification.
- In the mornings, please let students out before the front cover. This really helps speed up the morning car rider line. If we have a pretty consistent rain, our staff will be out with umbrellas to assist the students.

YMCA After School Program Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures at BES
YMCA After School Program Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures Battlefield Elementary School Revised 8/9/2024 The YMCA program is an active program and students will take part in activities in many parts of school campus each day. The procedures below take into account Georgia childcare licensing standards; the school facility’s desires and focus on the safety and security of students in the YMCA program.
Main Front Entrance of the School
This door will be locked after school dismissal. A courtesy sign will be placed on the window of the front doors letting parents know the location of the students. If we are in the cafeteria, parents will be buzzed in using the intercom system.
Google Voice Number to Reach Staff
You may also call the YMCA Google Voice phone number to reach staff if you do not see us. Students may be in group transition to the restroom or another part of the facility. The Google Voice number is posted at the front entrance near the intercom.
If we are on the playground
As you turn into the school parking lot from Lakeshore Drive each day, please look to see if there are students on the playground. If you see students and YMCA staff on the playground, please park and prepare to sign-out your child with YMCA staff. Students’ personal belongings will be with them during this time.
If pick-up time is before 4:00 p.m.
If the time is 4:00 p.m. or earlier in the day, parents and guardians should report to the main entrance and use the intercom system. Students’ personal belongings will be in the cafeteria during this time.
If pick-up time is after 4:00 p.m.
We may be on the gym or playground. If we are not on the playground, please look for the sign at the gym entrance. The gym entrance is on the front of the building toward the far end of the school closer to LFO High School. If you see the YMCA sign please park and prepare to sign-out your child with YMCA Staff. Students’ personal belongings will be in the gym during this time.
Sign-Out Binder
All students must be signed out each day by parent or guardian authorized by the registration form. This is a Georgia childcare licensing standard. YMCA staff will ask for photo identification for anyone picking up a student. Parent and guardians must sign a legible signature and time of pickup each day. The sign-out binder will always be located with YMCA staff and in the location of the students’ activity.
For new family members or guardians picking-up students
If you plan to have a new family member or guardian pick up your child:
1. Ensure they are authorized on the registration form with YMCA staff prior to pick-up date.
2. Share this procedure with them prior to the date of pick-up.
We do not allow phone-in requests for pick-up changes due to safety concerns. All pick-up requests and changes must be made in writing to the YMCA prior to pick-up.
