2022 Hall of Fame Inductees
Shelbyville High School will be inducting two new members into the 2022 Alumni Hall of Fame on Thursday, August 18th at 6:00PM in the Golden Bear Room at Shelbyville High School. The induction ceremony is open to the public. Additionally, we will invite all past recipients to the home varsity football game on Friday, August 19th beginning at 6:30PM. Our new inductees will also be recognized at halftime.
Mary Anne Richey (Reimann), SHS Class of 1935 A native of Shelbyville, Mary Anne attended Purdue University and enrolled in the University of Arizona College of Law in 1948. She received her J.D. in 1951 and was the only woman among 45 successful candidates for admission to the bar that year. From the beginning of her legal career, Mary Anne distinguished herself as a talented lawyer committed to fairness and justice. She served as a Deputy County Attorney of Pima County; an assistant United States Attorney, becoming the first woman United States Attorney in Arizona, holding that office from 1960 to 1961; and a Special Assistant Attorney General of Arizona. In 1964, she began her long tenure as a jurist, first serving as a Pima County Superior Court judge, then in 1976, President Gerald Ford appointed her to the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, the first woman to hold that position in Arizona. She continued as a federal trial judge until her death in 1983. Mary Anne profoundly touched the lives of all who knew her. As a lawyer and judge, she gained the deep respect of colleagues, attorneys, litigants, and the public. She combined her remarkable career with steadfast devotion to her family, husband William Richey and daughter Annie. She was, in addition, an avid sportswoman, an accomplished pilot (having served with the Women's Army Service Pilots during World War II), and a leader in community affairs.
Scott Olinger, SHS Class of 1981
Scott was a 3-sport athlete at SHS, graduating in 1981. An Indiana All Star in football and a recipient of the J.M. McKeand Award, Scott graduated from Butler University where he was a team captain and two-time First Team All-Conference and Academic Team All-Conference player. While at Butler, Scott was President of FCA and a Hilton U. Brown football award winner. Scott's 1983 undefeated Butler team was inducted into the Bulter Athletic Hall of Fame. A life-long educator, Scott began his career as a teacher, coach and assistant principal at SHS, followed by roles as principal of Batesville and Plainfield High Schools. He has been named a District Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year. Since 2008, Scott has served as superintendent of the Plainfield Community School Corporation, one of the top school districts in the State of Indiana.
His accomplishments there include development of the Imagination Lab, a project-based STEM/arts program and facility, and collaboration with the Town and higher education providers to create MADE@Plainfield, which provides post-secondary education and training for adults. A gifted mentor to students and colleagues, Scott embraces the mission of PCSC: Bringing Joy to Learning. He believes in giving back to his communities, including service on the boards of Leadership Shelby County, Greater Indianapolis YMCA, Plainfield and Shelbyville Chambers of Commerce, and First Christian Church of Shelbyville. He is a graduate of and volunteer for Leadership Hendricks County, and served many years as SCUFFY's Education drive chair as well as drive chair for Plainfield Schools' award-winning United Way campaigns. He has been honored for his visionary leadership and service to Hendricks County, and was nominated for executive of the year by United Way of Central Indiana.
