Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 10th May 2024
Colour Run 24th May 2024
Getting Colourful for Recommended Reading Books
We are very excited that we have set a date for our Colour Run to raise funds for recommended reading books. Each child has been given a letter which provides detail about the event and how to obtain items such as t-shirts and sunglasses. We will be holding our Colour Run for the Children on the last Friday of this half term and we are sure it will be a really fun event. Please do support the school by sponsoring the children so that we can improve the quality and quantity of our yearly recommended reading books.
Bread Making in Year 3
Making Bread in Year 3
As part of their REAL project preparation, Year 3 have been baking bread. They wanted to find out which type of bread was the healthiest and tastiest. They experimented with white, brown, granary, oat and linseed and sun-dried tomato and cheddar.
Working in a team, they weighed and combined their ingredients then developed their kneading skills to ensure their bread was light and fluffy. Once it was baked, they carried out the all-important taste test. Year 3 decided that white bread was the tastiest, but brown bread won overall as it was tasty and also high in fibre.
Year 3 will be selling their sandwiches on Ripon Market on Thursday 23rd May, please come and buy one for your lunch!
Year 6 Drawing Skills
Year 6 Learn about Chiaroscuro
The children in Year 6 have been learning about Mayan Street Art and drawing techniques. This week they explored chiaroscuro, a technique used by Leonardo DaVinci which focuses on the use of light to create work which has depth. The children used the names of Mayan symbols, charcoal, chalks and masking tape to create letters focusing on highlights and shadow. They will be then exploring how to use this technique to create street frescos.
Save the Turtles!
Save the Turtles
Year 1 put together a wonderful worship all about saving turtles. The worship is focused on their class work as courageous advocates for protecting animals. The children started their worship by sharing the story of a plastic bag called Stanley who was swallowed by lots of different animals. They told the story with fabulous expression and amazing acting.
They sang a song all about saving turtles and shared their 'Save the Turtles' signs. Well done Year 1 a super effort.

School Updates
Bikes and Scooters
Please can we remind all parents and carers that for health and safety reasons children should not be riding bikes and scooters on the school grounds.
Parking at the start and end of the day.
I have received a number of comments recently from concerned parents about inconsiderate parking. Please do ensure that you do not park on double yellow lines or in a way that causes a hazard to other car users or pedestrians. We do ask that you put safety first - if you would like a permit to park in the St Marygate car park do get in touch with the school office.
Fabulous feedback
