Principal's Weekly Update
March 22, 2025
Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s):
World Language Week was once again very well received by our students. They enjoyed a school wide Cultrual Kahoot game on Tuesday and learned some new dance moves on Wednesday (thanks to ELA teacher Jessica Matthews– it sometimes comes in handy having a dance instructor on the staff). On Thursday our Advisory period zeroed in on language itself– for one part of the lesson, students listened to audio clips of people speaking in a different language and had to guess the language– that was much harder than it sounds–I struggled with it. We finished on Friday by wearing clothes and/or accessories which highlight our culture. We added some “crazy socks” to simultaneously support World Down Syndrome Awarenss Day. You can see how staff and students responded in some of the photos below. I should also mention that the staff kicked off World Language Week with a St. Patrick's Day themed scavenger hunt at the end of our PD Day on Monday. In our insert photo you see one teacher team sprinting to find the next clue.
Consistent with past years, and in ongoing testament to the strength of our music program, Madison had several students selected to perform last weekend with the CMEA Western Region Honors Orchestra and Band. Orchestra students Andriana Elkins and Diana Champagne joined this illustrious group. Alisha Mahendran (flute) and Andrew Staffaroni (alto saxophone) performed in the Western Region Concert Band, and Ben Lee (trombone) performed in the Western Region Jazz Band. We are beaming with pride at the accomplishments of these talented musicians.
The Trimester 2 report cards have been posted in Infinite Campus Backpack. Click here for directions on how to access report cards in Infinite Campus.
** Our PTA Online Auction kicked off last evening– perhaps you have already placed some bids– bidding ends at 10pm on Sunday. You can check out the prizes here.**
Panthers love literature– check out the books and author reviews on the Read & Roar web site Club members continually update the site as they finish each book. Their insights and opinions might just help their fellow students to find that next great “unputdownable” book.
Reminders:
We are still looking to see if there are more students interested in signing up for our new Track & Field Team– it’s not too late. You can register online and then join the Google Classroom for communication throughout the season. The classroom code is 5gmhpg4.
6th Grade Field Trip
As a final reminder, field trip permission slips and payment to the Infinite Campus school store are due no later than Monday, March 24th. If your child would like to attend the Bridgeport Islanders hockey game trip on April 2nd, both permission slip and payment must be received by Monday. No late submission will be accepted. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Mancini at mmancini@trumbullps.org or Mr. Reda at rreda@trumbullps.org
Starting on Tuesday, March 18, and running through Friday, March 28, NJHS will be sponsoring a Book Drive to benefit Columbus School, a Pre-K-8 school in Bridgeport. We are collecting both new and gently-used children’s books, and collection boxes will be placed in both Reading and Language Arts classrooms. The top-donating reading or language arts class at each grade level will win a Dunkin Donuts breakfast!
Clubs & Activities:
Read & Roar Book Club will meet again Tuesday, March 25.
The next 3D Printing session will be Wednesday, March 26 in the Learning Commons.
Lastly, thanks to those of you who came out last night for our 2nd Annual Cornhole Tournament--it was very fun, and we look forward to continuing this new tradition with a 3rd Annual Tournamnet next year. The event will probably never be one of our biggest fundraisers (can I remind you again about the Online Auction ? Because that is one of our biggest fundraisers), but it is a great opportunity for some "community building". After all-- that's what we try to do during the school day, so it is just as important to extend that community outward, and to draw in the parent community. We want you to be as much a part of what Madison is all about as your children.
Have great weekend !!
Take care,
Peter Sullivan
