Information for all Crawfordsville Elementary Families
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th-10th!
Summer Food Program & Application - The state of Indiana today announced that applications for the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (SEBT) program, also known as SUN Bucks, are now open.
SUN Bucks is a new benefits program that provides families a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible school-aged child to help purchase groceries during the summer. This ensures that students continue to have access to healthy meals beyond the school year.
Children are eligible for the program if:
- The household already participates in SNAP, TANF, or income-based Medicaid, or
- The student has been identified as a ward of the state (foster child), homeless, or migrant, or
- The student attends a school that offers the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), and the household income meets the requirements for free or reduced-price school meals.
The benefits will be provided to eligible families on a separate EBT card and mailed directly to their home. Benefits can be used at authorized retailers, like grocery stores and farmers markets, to purchase healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, meats and other protein sources, whole grains and dairy. These benefits are available in addition to free meals that children of all ages can get at SUN Meals sites in their communities.
Most eligible families will receive these benefits automatically and local schools will communicate eligibility to parents and families. Some parents will need to apply. The following households need to complete the online SUN Bucks application:
- Households with children attending a school operating the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), where all meals are free to students, and who have not been notified of automatic SUN Bucks eligibility.
- Households with children attending a school operating NSLP who were not approved for free or reduced meals during the school year.
- Households with children that do not attend a school operating NSLP and who receive SNAP, TANF, certain levels of income-based Medicaid, or are foster, migrant, or homeless.
SUN Bucks is funded by the state of Indiana and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Visit the Indiana SUN Bucks webpage to learn more about this new program and apply today.

Preschool News
A big THANKS goes out to all of the families that were able to attend the Prom on Friday, April 19. It was amazing to see all of the students having a great time. I especially enjoyed the interaction between the students and their families. I hope everyone had a great time!
This week the students will explore the theme of ocean. Students have learned about a variety of animals. Students continue to work on word and sound play, identifying habitats, using symbols on a map, counting with one-to-one correspondence, identifying big and little, and classifying animals.
Just a reminder our last day of school is May 24, 2025. With just four weeks left until summer break, please make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather. Indiana is still trying to decide if it is winter, spring, or summer temperatures.
On April 24, 2024, tuition of $100 per month for students participating in the community classrooms was DUE for May. Families that have a balance due will receive a statement. If you have any questions, please contact us at 765-362-0005.
Information for Car Riders
Parents: The car rider line is in the parking lot located on Wabash Avenue. Please enter on the east side of the parking lot to travel around in an N-shape. For arrival procedures, parents can park to unload their students once they have reached one of the five painted cars that are on the playground fence. Please walk your student to the gate where you will be greeted by staff members. For dismissal procedures, students will be dismissed five at a time to their parents once the cars have been parked by the painted signs on the playground fence. Parents will walk up to the gate to greet their students. DO NOT pass a vehicle that is loading or unloading a student.
Transportation Changes
Please contact Megan, if there are any transportation changes needed for bussing or car rider. Any drop-off and pick-up address changes will require 48-hour notice before starting. Any changes regarding a student as a car rider will need to be placed 30 minutes before dismissal (10:00/1:20).

Kindergarten - 1st Grade News
Our third and final round of iReady testing will begin on Monday, May 6, 2024. It will be important for students to have a good night's sleep so they can perform their best. Testing can cause some students to be nervous or anxious. We do not want our Hose student to experience either due to iReady. Our teachers will be discussing the goal is for each student to give their best effort. As their family, please reinforce that there is nothing to be nervous or anxious about during iReady. We simply want students to put forth their best effort. You will receive your student’s results with their final report card.
Thank you to all of our volunteers who donated their time to help with our skating unit this spring. Your help was not only greatly appreciated but is what makes this unit successful. The students really enjoyed the opportunity to learn to skate (as did a few brave teachers)!

The Power of Positivity
We as parents strive to have our children grow up happy and healthy. We can promote self confidence and a positive attitude by developing a supportive and encouraging environment at home and in the community. There are lots of ways that we can promote a positive mindset. Here are some for you to try at home:
Praise your child! Tell them good job, remind them of their positive qualities and thank them for meeting/exceeding expectations.
Practice positive affirmations! Try having your kids say phrases like “I am brave.”, “I am strong.”, or “I can do hard things.”
Help set and achieve goals! Set short term and long term goals and put a plan in place to reach these goals.
Show unconditional love! Make it clear to your kids that even when they mess up that you still love them and help them learn from their mistakes.
