Stowe's Sticky Notes
Our first Lone Star PTA meeting is this Wednesday, September 4th at 9:30am in Room 101. Our special guest will be MISD Superintendent, Dr. Mark Ruffin. Click here to sign-up to attend. Our PTA does amazing things for our campus, so we hope to see you there!
We also have grandparents' breakfasts this week on Thursday and Friday! If you signed your grands up on the RSVP, please make sure that they are stopping by to have their IDs scanned so they can skip the line on Thurs/Fri. The MISD system removes old scans to make storage space for new ones, so you have to re-scan each year. We are going to try to have scanners ready at 7am with breakfast opening at 7:20am. All breakfasts must end by 7:50am when our buses arrive to allow us to have normal breakfast for them. REMEMBER: Grands should be bringing the children with them to campus; if your child is riding the bus, they will not be able to have breakfast with their grand as the event will be over.)
September is National Attendance Awareness Month. We know that absences happen, but we can also Be Proactive (Habit 1) and Begin with the End in Mind (Habit 2). Attendance is one of the vital metrics for a healthy campus. Like taking our temperature or blood pressure our personal and campus attendance rate can help us know when we're in an unhealthy zone.
"At Lone Star we "Strive for Less than 5 absences" per school year. As a parent I completely understand the need to juggle appointments, vacations, reunions, and illness in our busy lives. I like to think of my 5 days as an allotment or a budget; if I am going out of town, I may use one of these 5 days with a 3 or 4 day weekend to make a longer vacation.
I also know that striving for less than 5 absences is a goal and we know that not everyone will be able to meet it. Kids get sick! Of my 2 children at Lone Star, only one made the goal last year. The other was more unlucky with catching viruses and spent a few more days at home. That is also okay! This year, we're working towards being above the mark again.
To make attendance a positive and its importance a positive, we celebrate a spirit week. This year Attendance Awareness Spirit Week begins on Sept 16 with a week of dress-up days and friendly competitions! I hope that you will join us in these celebrations! Each student at LSE also has an attendance Wildly Important Goal (WIG) as part of our Leader in Me program.

Arrival and Dismissal Notes
Do NOT park in a handicap space for any amount of time unless you have a handicap sticker. We have families that need to use these spaces.
If you are parking and not using the car rider line, you must walk your children into the vestibule. Students can only be dropped off on the car rider line.
If you arrive after 8:15am, you will need to park in the parking lot and escort your children inside for a tardy pass. Students may not be dropped off at the curb.
Transportation changes can be made through PikMyKid up until 2pm each day. Click on the calendar to update your dismissal method. It's always a good idea to let the teacher know via email/dojo/bloomz just in case.
The last time to check out a student early is 3:00pm. If you have an emergency, please contact the front office.
School ends each day 3:40pm and dismissal begins at that time. Please keep these times and the time it takes to dismiss all students in mind as you register students for extra-curricular activities.
At dismissal, if you need to buckle a child into a seat for car rider, after your child is safely in the car, please pull forward into a visitor parking spot so that you can safely buckle in your child and keep our line moving.
Updated Snack Procedures from Child Nutrition
The MISD Child Nutrition department has updated the number and grade spans for snacks to be consistent across all MISD Elementary campuses. This means that technically Kindergarten students could purchase an ice cream every day. In the past we had limited lower grades to just one day per week.
If you need to place a restriction on your child's lunch account so that they aren't charging a snack (or two!) every day, please reach out to our cafeteria manager, Erica Cedillo, at erica.cedillo@misd.org.

Nurse's Notes
Hello, Lone Star Families! I unfortunately have had several cases of strep throat and COVID reported this past week amongst all grade levels. Our kiddos have complained a lot about headaches, stomach aches and/or sore throats. Please monitor your child for any symptoms and if they have a fever of 100.0, have vomiting or diarrhea they will need to stay home and be symptom and medication free for 24 hours. Here are some tips that can help:
Stay home if ill
Wash hands with soap and water often especially before eating
Hand sanitizer
Avoid touching your mouth, nose or eyes
Cover your mouth/nose when you cough/sneeze
Avoid sharing cups and utensils
Stay Well!
