Cougar Paw Prints 11/4

What an exciting past couple weeks we have had! There is so much to celebrate and be proud of! We hosted our first ever Raising Readers parent class and loved talking to the parents. We had an incredible awards ceremony honoring so many students. Stories that Soar was amazing and we loved watching student stories come to life on the stage. Then we had the 'A' letter grade announcement which is magnificent news. And of course on Halloween the students had so much fun. Thank you for bringing your student to Kellond and trusting us with their daily learning and growing. We are truly better together.

Kellond is currently being considered for a 6th grade expansion. We need your opinion. Please click here to fill out the survey. GATE parents, the program would continue in 6th grade.

We have a basketball coach! Hooray! Practice starts tomorrow (11/4) and will be from 3:30-4:30. You have until the 18th to turn in your paperwork and join the team.

The deadline was extended until tomorrow (11/4) at noon. Turn in any last minute cans so we can beat those Beavers. The winning school not only gets bragging rights (which is a big deal in the Schiavone house) but also wins Eegees for the entire school. Ms. Schiavone has also sweetened the deal by offering pizza to the TWO classes who brings in the most items.

Depending on how much a student raises, they may win being the principal for the day, throwing a pie at the principal, winning a Beats headset, and winning an android tablet. We have been trying to raise enough money for the playground upgrade, however this money also helps fund many things on campus like equipment for our sports teams and recess, books for the vending machine, prizes for our PBIS store, prizes for testing, and items for our de-escalation/sensory room just to name a few. Any little bit that you can donate helps.

We have some fun events on the calendar that we are excited to share with you.

• Movie night on the turf. Help us get ready for the holiday season on Friday, 11/15. Doors open at 5:00 and we will start the movie as soon as it is dark enough. Probably around 5:45. I will leave the voting open for one more week. Currently The Grinch and Home Alone are neck and neck. Click here to vote on the movie.
• 2nd Great Kellond Holiday Bake Off. Friday, 12/6. Does everyone compliment your holiday fudge? Are family members constantly asking you for your cookie recipe? If you think your deserts are delicious, it is time to prove it! Click here to compete in our Great Kellond Holiday Bake Off. Enter by Saturday, 11/30.
• Family Game Night. Friday, 2/28. Please come to our family game night and learn how to play common and popular games that also happen to support reading and/or math skills. This should be fun for the whole family!

Please consider joining the PTO. They are a wonderful group of parents who have the goal of bringing joy to the campus. The next meeting is in the cafeteria at 3:45pm on Thursday, 11/7 and we need new board members. This group is also very much in need of your help to put together the Holiday Shop this year. Please click here to sign up to volunteer. Any time you could give would be so much appreciated.

It is not safe or kind to park in fire lanes, accessible spots, nor the bus bay. If you have been guilty of using the bus bay to park, the bus drivers are reporting your plates to TUSD and TPD. It is also not kind to be aggressive and/or argumentative when told to move your car from said illegal parking spot to a legal one. The kind thing to do is park legally and model safe and appropriate behavior for our students. The safety of a child or adult should never be compromised for the sake of your convenience.

This year, we've expanded our 'dine for dollars' program to offer a variety of family dining nights. Now, you have the flexibility to choose when and where you'd like to support Kellond.

Thank you to Ms. Leftwich for finding our new coffee truck, Adelita Cafe. The cold foam pumpkin latte was delicious. Mark your calendar for the last Wednesday of the month to park and get yourself a cup of coffee. Next one is on 11/27
