A Message from Dr. Ortiz, Principal of Sandy Run

Good afternoon Sandy Run families.

With the first full week of school behind us, we are fully in the swing of the 23-24 school year - and it has been a great start. The feeling here at SRMS has been one of optimism and excitement. We've begun with a strong, smooth start and are getting fully underway with academics, sports, and more. Students are now accustomed to a few new procedures that have added some routine and structure throughout the day; making new friends; and building strong relationships with their teachers and peers. Last night, it was great to see so many families come out to Back to School Night. It was the first time that we have hosted all three grades in a single night and it was a huge success. It was great to allow families the opportunity to travel the entire schedule for their child, and our teachers enjoyed meeting you all. I hope that you and your families have a wonderful weekend and please see the updates listed below.

PBIS Kickoff!

On Monday, we began our week with a PBIS Kickoff Grade Level Assembly. PBIS is a systemic way to teach, recognize, and reinforce the positive expected behaviors of a successful student. Each month, the SRMS administrative team will hold grade-level meetings to highlight a different school value. This month's value of focus is "Citizenship" and students have been - and will continue to be - periodically recognized & rewarded for displaying good citizenship throughout the month. Stay tuned for more info, but this has already reset our school culture and added some positive energy through SRMS!

6th Grade Spirit Day

Mr. Nelms and Ms. Meyers - two sixth grade teachers on the Gold and Gray teams - pose for a picture prior to the 6th grade Spirit Day on Friday. While the different teams competed in friendly games, it was a morning of great team-building, fun, and excitement. This is simply one of several community-building activities planned for the beginning of the year. Special thanks to the SRMS PE Department for organizing the day.

School Culture

Our 6th grade Red Team stop for a picture as they head outside for their Field Day. Everyone got into the fun, even Clyde the Cardinal! We have continued to place strong emphasis on building the school culture to be one of positivity, teamwork, inclusivity, excitement and striving for our individual best. The Fall Spirit Day is a great example of these goals.

PTO Meeting on Monday Sept 18

  • The Sandy Run PTO will host the first meeting of the year at the SRMS Cafeteria on Monday, September 18th at 7pm. All parents are invited to attend. We will be recruiting for PTO leaders, class event leaders and helpers, and invite parents to bring great ideas and enthusiasm. SRMS Yearbook:

  • It's time to order your Sandy Run Yearbook! Yearbooks are officially on sale starting at $35 see the flyer for more information. Be sure to have a copy of the memories of the 2023-24 school year. To order, click this link.


MacGuffin Theatre & Film Company

  • We are coming back to Upper Dublin this Fall! On Thursdays after school at Sandy Run Middle School, they will have classes for ages 7 to 14 starting September 21. There is a production class for ages 7-10 from 4:30p to 5:30p where they will work on the musical “THE BEES,” and for ages 11 to 14, there are two classes being offered: an acting class and a comedy improv class. Jen Jaynes, former Director for the musicals at SRMS, will be leading these classes as the Associate Artistic Director of MacGuffin. Flyer

Strengthening Families ages 10-14:

  • For dinner, they have the choice to have pizzas delivered to their home or a $50 DoorDash gift card to purchase their own dinner (that’s $50 for each night of the group).

Guiding Good Choices One Week Intensive ages 9-14:
  • The group will meet Monday through Friday 9/18/2023 to 9/22/2023 from 6:00pm- 7:00pm. Parents meet each night without children, but the children join their parent during the 4th session for a discussion about peer pressure. Dinner will also be sent to families every night and incentives (gift cards) will be provided to the kids for participation. Flyer

Parents meet each night without children, but the children join their parent during the 4th session for a discussion about peer pressure. Strengthening Families ages 10-14 (2 Week Intensive):
  • The group will meet on the following dates: Monday 9/18, Tuesday 9/19, Wednesday 9/20, Monday 9/25, Tuesday 9/26, Wednesday 9/27. Parent group and kid group meet at 6:00pm (they will need to be on separate devices) and the whole family meets together at 7:00pm. Dinner will also be sent to families every evening and incentives (gift cards) will be provided to the kids for participation. Flyer .
