Congratulations to the Spell Bowl team for qualifying for the 38th Annual Indiana Academic Spell Bowl State Finals at Purdue University on Saturday, November 12. Our team finished in second place at the Area competition this past Tuesday evening. Bella Matney scored a perfect score and Bella Bradburn, Wyatt Haacker and Cooper Lay scored near perfect scores with only one misspelled word each! Other team members include: Daisy Barrett, Danae Cazares, Miguel Cazares, Morgan Cazares, Karina Calderon, Ella Connolly, Delaney Watson, Ava Mummert, Rachael Martins-Thomas, Lilly Johnson, and Nathalia Riquelme. Congratulations to our quiz league team for beating Perry Meridian at home last night! It was a

fantastic match, and Shelbyville fell behind until the very last question of the game, which Will

Haessig answered super quickly to give us a heroic victory. Madelyn Scott gave us the boost we

needed in the minute round by answering all the mythology questions correctly, and Gage

Witten and Bella Bradburn both added to our come from behind victory. We are currently 3 and

0. Our next match is against Southport next Thursday. Great job Golden Bears!

The High School is participating in the Universal Breakfast Program for the current school

year 2022-2023. Breakfast will be available to all students at no charge. Breakfast is

served from 8-8:30am in the cafeteria. Breakfast is operated under offer vs serve, which

provides students with choices, taking at least 3 items, one of which must be a fruit or

vegetable. The school breakfast that we serve follows U.S. Department of Agriculture

guidelines for healthy school meals. The program cannot succeed without your support;

please encourage your children to participate in school breakfast.

SHS is having a Pantry Pals food drive. Bring cans or donations to your homeroom class. Homeroom classes are competing for house points towards the Class Cup. The homeroom with the most donations will receive a prize for their class. The food drive will run through Friday, November 11th.

The SHS and SMS Choir Departments are selling beautiful poinsettias for the holidays. A variety of starter trees and plants that can be used for holiday decorations or given as gifts are also available for purchase this year. All proceeds from this holiday fundraiser will be used to purchase performance equipment and classroom materials for our choirs to use this year. Orders are due to Mr. Kenemore (SHS) or Mrs. Hall (SMS) by 3 PM on Wednesday, November 16th. All customers are asked to pick up their orders at Shelbyville High School's main entrance on Monday, November 28th, between 4:30 and 6:30 PM. AP Envelopes will be distributed on Tuesday, October 25th. They are due back to the counseling office by Tuesday, November 8th with any money for the exams. AP exams are $97 each. The state of Indiana is covering the cost of all science, math, English, and computer science exams.

Pathway to Your Future aims to ensure that all students, regardless of background, graduate with the necessary skills to lead thoughtful conversations and to help build more inclusive communities. Pathway to Your Future is provided specifically for underrepresented minority students to learn about the numerous benefits that come with being a Wabash Man, and to build a connection with guys they will see again when they come to Wabash. If you are an underrepresented minority student, eligible for a federal Pell Grant, and/or first-generation college student, please apply now for this week-long residential program taking place at Wabash College this summer from June 24-June 29, 2023. Travel expenses are covered and the event is free. During the program, students will:

• have the potential to receive an annual scholarship up to $25,000 upon completion of this program in addition to merit scholarships;

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) invites sophomores, juniors and seniors to attend a National Virtual College Fair. There are 3 virtual fairs scheduled this fall on September 11, October 9, and November 6. Before the fair, go to the NACAC website to register and to check out the college representatives who will be in attendance.

Students can also schedule a virtual or in-person campus visit directly with the school of their choice.

Apply now to be one of 50 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholars to earn a $55,000 per year college scholarship. High school seniors with a minimum of a 3.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need are eligible. Supporting materials include teacher and counselor recommendation letters, a transcript, and copy of the school report. Apply online using this link. In addition to receiving college scholarships, Jack Kent Cooke Scholars receive multifaceted advising about making the transition into college and maximizing their undergraduate experience. Mrs. Tillison is a member of the English department. She has gone above and beyond this school year to ensure our students had their first "normal" Homecoming experience in years. The students' collective energy, school spirit, and pride have been night and day different than years past, and they've been excited to participate; all of this is a result of Lindsay's efforts with student council and her strong desire to truly build student leadership. She has been setting high expectations for her students (both in the classroom and with student council), and her students respond to the challenge. It is obvious she cares deeply about each of her students, our entire school, and our community. She deserves this. :)

About Mrs. Tillison:

My husband, Jacob, and I live on a small farm towards Rushville with our two children. Emmalyn is a first grader at Hendricks, and Miles is two. Outside of my kiddos activities and school my down time is spent at the gym, helping my aunt at her shipping business, and hiking. I am currently in my sixth year of teaching, all of which have been at SHS. I am sponsor of the student council, and am working on bringing the newspaper back this year.

The thing she loves most about SHS is the connections that she's made, not only with her coworkers, but also her students and community members.

Each month, we will be accepting nominations from students, parents, community members, and staff for the teacher/staff member of the month. Any certified staff member is eligible for nomination. Please use this form to help honor those that you feel are worthy of this celebration!

SHS will be offering after school tutoring on Wednesdays and Thursdays. After School tutoring will begin on Wednesday, September 7th in the Media Center. Sign up sheets will be readily available in students' homerooms or by downloading the pdf below. Transportation will be provided if students return the sign in sheet by Tuesday, September 6th or 24 hours before attending tutoring sessions.

The Gift & Hobby Show will be on Saturday, November 5th from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Shelbyville Middle School, 1200 W. McKay Road. This is a free event with more that 120 vendors and is sponsored by Delta Theta Sorority, Zeta Lambda chapter.

Girls Inc. is starting a Teen Advocacy group. They will meet twice a month and bring awareness

about female issues and empowerment. It is open to any girl who is interested and is a great

resume builder, opportunities for field trips, stipends and SWAG. If you are interested in joining

the group, contact Mrs. Beyer by the end of this week!

Over the past two years, lunches were free; however, this school year families will be

expected to pay for student lunches once again. Student lunch prices are outlined below. Breakfast will continue to be free for all students. We encourage all parents and guardians to fill out the free and reduced lunch form to ensure that if you qualify, you will receive lunch and/or textbook/school fee assistance.
