Wolverine Wire
March/April 2025
Dear Wolverine Families and Community,
Welcome back from Spring Break! We're looking forward to seeing our young scholars as they return on Monday morning. As we turn the corner into spring, the energy in our school is shifting—just like the season itself. There’s a sense of momentum and possibility in the air. The days are longer, the sun shines a little brighter (most days!), and students are stepping into new opportunities, challenges, and celebrations.
So you know, grades are due Tuesday 4/15, so log in to Skyward to see your student's official progress report. Report cards are sent at the end of each semester only. If you need help logging in, please call the office at 360-378-5215.
Spring Sports Are in Full Swing
There’s nothing quite like cheering on our student-athletes from the stands—whether it's track meets, tennis matches, soccer games, or baseball and softball showdowns. These moments bring our community together and give our students a chance to grow in leadership, discipline, and teamwork. We have over 150 students participating in Spring Sports. Student Athletes have a high level of responsibility to keep eligible to compete since they miss much more school than non-island students. When ferry travel occurs during school hours, teams are expected to use that time for schoolwork. Many coaches would be happy to proctor tests or quizzes, as well! Our next Grade Check date is Friday, 4/18. Our sports calendar can be found on the school calendar on our website, as well as the fhwolverines.com site.
The Class of 2025: Approaching the Finish Line
For our seniors, this season is especially significant. They’re finalizing post-high school plans, receiving college admissions, applying for scholarships, and making some big decisions about their futures. It’s a time filled with excitement, anxiety, pride, and sometimes uncertainty—all of it valid and part of the journey. If you're a senior family, thank you for walking alongside your student with so much care and encouragement. We will be sharing more and more information regarding graduation events as the spring progresses. We can't wait to see them cross that stage!
Graduation Date: Saturday, June 7th at 5pm in Turnbull Gym
AP & State Testing Season Is Ahead
This spring also brings AP and state assessments.
The AP tests are proctored between 5/5 and 5/16. Your student should know their testing dates and times; if they don't, they need to ask here at school (AP teacher or Main Office).
The state tests are between the dates of 5/19 and 5/22. Please avoid taking your student from school on these dates. All Grade 10 and Grade 11 students will be testing. Freshmen will NOT be testing this year, and will have the option of coming to school for an AM study hall during the testing window OR arriving by 10:10 (transportation provided at regular times only). Stay tuned for a letter with much more details about state testing! Most students need to take and pass these tests to be able to earn a diploma in the state of Washington.
While we know these tests are just one piece of the puzzle, they are important tools that help us understand student progress and how we can improve teaching and learning. Most importantly, we want every student to know: you are more than a test score. These assessments are a snapshot, not a full portrait. We see your creativity, your growth, your effort, and your character every day.
Do Those Tardies Matter Anyway?
Many students (and families) have accrued over 5 allowed tardies this school year. Students need to make sure to 'clear their record' by serving 1 hour of detention for every 5 tardies. As the year comes to a close, please make sure you're helping your student follow through with their responsibility to make that time up. Students can stay any day with prior arrangements; Mondays are the days we have a paid supervisor. A quiet hour of studying is all the requirement is ... and goodness knows, all our students could benefit from that!
Taking Care Through It All
Spring can be a joyful time, but also a stressful one. There’s a lot packed into these next few months—deadlines, transitions, celebrations, and endings. We’re continuing to remind students (and ourselves) to take breaks, ask for help when needed, and stay grounded in what matters: relationships, growth, and well-being.
Thank you for being partners in this season of learning, change, and celebration. Let’s finish the year strong—together.
Warmly,
Andrea Hillman

For over a decade, the San Juan Service Scholarship organization has been awarding $1,000 scholarships to our local graduates. For the Class of 2025 and all future graduating classes the award will be $1500. See their website for details. This scholarship is one of the few that all students are eligible for, regardless of income or GPA. If your student serves the community for 80+ hours between 8th grade and graduation, they earn this scholarship. What an incredible way to lay a foundation for caring for and serving community!
