Holiday Goodness
Five Tips for a Healthy Holiday Season
November begins the season of festivities for many people and it's easy to overindulge during this time of year. Here are five tips for keeping it healthy with so many goodies and treats available this season.
- Keep it Active: Go for a walk, do a dance in the kitchen, or put on an old exercise video. Moving helps keep you energized and it's a good way to have fun with your kids. Remember, we need at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day!
- Lighten up a bit: Try using fat-free yogurt or sour cream in dips and casseroles. Trading out candy corn and potato chips for healthier snacks can satisfy cravings without the extra sugar and salt.
- Stay Hydrated: A lot of our favorite side dishes contain extra sodium. Water helps keep our bodies hydrated.
- Add Color: Be sure to mix it up when choosing fruits and vegetables. Different colors have different vitamins so remember to "Eat the Rainbow".
- All food fits: Remember, there is no “bad food”. All food is OK in moderation. Enjoy the holidays and the famous meals without guilt.
