Dear Parents,

Welcome to our first edition of the Connections Newsletter. Unfortunately, since we are unable to connect with you in person this school year, we hope you feel a connection to Upper Adams virtually!

We welcome your feedback as to items you'd like to see in future editions. Please know how much we appreciate you as parents, and appreciate the support you give your students every day!

Taking Notes

Fourth graders are working on taking notes while reading. In the 4th grade ESL classroom, we are using the Tree-Root Thinking Map to take our notes. After taking notes, we work on writing the TDA (Text Dependent Analysis) using the RACES model.

These letters mean:

R=Restate the Question

A=Answer the Question

C=Cite the evidence from the text

E=Explain what the text evidence means in your own words

S=Summarize by using the information in the R & A

Teachers Never Stop Learning

The district ESL teachers recently participated in a seminar to more effectively help ELL students read, write, and speak with greater fluency. The strategies learned are appropriate for teaching in-person or online.

After School Program

In Partnership with Adams Co. Collaboration for Youth

We are excited to announce that our After-School Program through Collaboration for Youth of Adams County, will be starting at the Land of Little Horses in Gettysburg on Monday, October 26th. This program is available for students each week Monday through Thursday. Kids will be kept busy with STEM activities, homework, academic enrichment activities, and physical activities, all while spending time with their friends.

The program is FREE to ALL families regardless of income. After-school programming is available to students when they are scheduled for in-person learning. Virtual options are also available.
