Art with Ms. Mancini

Ms. Mancini’s art classes have been filled with exciting ‘spooktacular’ activities this past month!

In kindergarten, students focused on building their hand-eye coordination. Using cutting skills, gluing skills, and planning skills, students created a collage based on the story 5 Little Pumpkins by Marybeth Butler.

First graders explored different types of lines, including vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and curved lines. They used these lines to create beautiful spider webs inspired by the book Aaaarrgghh! Spider! By Lydia Monks.

In second grade, students learned how to sketch pumpkins. They were inspired by the famous artist Yayoi Kusama and created watercolor dot pumpkins. One of the highlights of this project was using marbles to paint an abstract background for their pumpkins. This fun technique allowed them to experiment with new materials and textures!

Halloween Parade

Date: Thursday, October 31st

Place: Hawthorne Brighton Circle

Time: Kindergarten: 9:00 a.m.

Grade 1: 9:45 a.m.

Grade 2: 10:30 a.m.

We are excited for you to join us for the parade! We ask that each adult family member who is attending the parade wear an HES Event wristband. When you arrive at Hawthorne, please proceed directly to the Brighton circle where our staff will check you in. Once you have checked in, please proceed to the sidewalk on the perimeter of the circle.

Students may come to school in costume or bring their costumes to school in a clearly labeled bag. Please do not send in any fake weapons with your child’s costume.

Please note: Parking will not be available at Holy Rosary.

* If we have inclement weather, this will be an indoor event for students only.

Parent Conferences

We will be hosting parent conferences on November 1st. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and share information. Our faculty will be discussing your child's first two months of school as well as the current focus for instruction. We welcome your feedback and insights as partners in your child's education.

Please note that dismissal will be at 11:15 a.m. Lunch will not be served. Please have all dismissal instructions entered into School Dismissal Manager by 10:00 a.m.

Reminders

1. As we get into the season of treats, please do not send your child to school with food containing nuts or sunflower seeds. Please do not send in Halloween candy. Thank you for working together to keep our kids safe.

2. Please have your photo identification when you visit Hawthorne.

3. Please use School Dismissal Manager to report your child's attendance information ( absences, late arrivals, leaving early). Please do not email the teacher or call the office regarding attendance.
