Upcoming Solar Eclipse Information
I want to inform you about an exciting celestial event that will be occurring soon: a solar eclipse! On 4/8, there will be a solar eclipse visible from our area. This presents a fantastic opportunity for our Scotties to witness a natural wonder and learn about the science behind it. The moon passes between the Earth and the sun, casting a shadow on our planet.
Safety Precautions: While eclipses are awe-inspiring events, it's crucial to observe them safely to protect our eyes. Looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause permanent eye damage. Therefore, we will be taking the following precautions:
- Special Eyewear: SBCSC will provide certified solar viewing glasses for all students and staff to safely observe the eclipse.
- Early Dismissal: On 4/8, we will dismiss at 2:10 instead of 2:30. Students will load buses and leave Swanson at 2:10. Parents picking up in cars, please plan to be here early. We want to get students home so staff can safely drive home too.
Please discuss eclipse safety with your children at home and reinforce the importance of wearing the provided eyewear during the event. If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming solar eclipse, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're looking forward to this educational and memorable experience!

Prepare Your Student on Test Days
Preparing students for ILEARN (Indiana's Learning Evaluation Assessment Readiness Network) test days involves a combination of practical and emotional support. Here's a guide for you parents:
Encourage Healthy Habits: Ensure your child gets enough sleep the night before the test. A well-rested mind performs better. Also, provide a nutritious breakfast on test days to fuel their brain.
Review Test-Taking Strategies: Help your child familiarize themselves with different question types they may encounter on the test. Teach them strategies such as process of elimination, educated guessing, and managing their time effectively during the exam.
Manage Stress: Talk to your child about any worries or anxiety they may have about the test. Encourage them to take deep breaths and stay positive. Remind them that it's okay to feel nervous but that they are prepared and capable.
Provide a Supportive Environment: Create a calm and encouraging atmosphere at home during the testing period. Minimize distractions and offer emotional support to boost your child's confidence.
Arrive on Time: Ensure your child arrives at school on time on test days. Rushing can increase stress levels, so plan ahead to avoid any last-minute rushes.
Celebrate Effort, Regardless of Outcome: Regardless of the results, praise your child for their hard work and effort. Emphasize that the test is just one measure of their abilities and that their worth is not determined solely by their performance on a single test.
By following these tips, you can help ensure that your children are well-prepared and confident on ILEARN test days.

Planning for the 2024-2025 School Year
It is essential that we obtain an accurate count of all children qualifying for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year as soon as possible. Our preschool children will receive the first availability for kindergarten spots, and we want to ensure that siblings of
current Swanson students are enrolled before the sections are full.
If you have a child who will be five years of age on or before August 1, 2024, the child qualifies for next year’s kindergarten program. Students qualify for Pre-K if they are 4 by September 1, 2024. Please fill out a 2024-2025 Swanson online application. (Make sure it is 2024-25 and not this current school year.)
If you have neighbors with qualifying children, please share this information with them.
It is also important that we have an accurate count of returning students to Swanson for next year.
If you have a child presently attending Swanson Traditional School, they will automatically be enrolled for next year. However, we ask that you fill out an intent to return so we have an accurate count of classroom numbers. If you haven't completed the survey, click on the button below.
