Appleton Echo
Summer Term 2, Week 3
A word from Mr Broom
We had so much to celebrate this morning, our assembly went on for well over half an hour. This week has been a very sporty one. We've had tournaments and events galore and I must say, our children have both enjoyed and shone in every event with their super attitude.
Today's assembly was also an opportunity to celebrate a few of our mums who have driven a fully-stocked ambulance to Ukraine! It was great to add realism to the fundraising we had done in school and I was very impressed with our children's Geographical knowledge too.
Next week, the whole school visits Bridlington for the day. I can't wait!
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
2 Million Word Man!
Our Accelerated Reader system in school allows us to track the number of words anyone reads and I'm delighted to say that one of our pupils has hit the 2 million word mark! Dylan has just hit this mark. We're really proud of his achievement and more words means a great vocabulary, which has a knock on to the rest of the curriculum. I wonder if anyone else will make the big 2 million word mark?
Farewell Mrs Kelsey
Yesterday, we said goodbye to Mrs Kelsey, our student teacher based in Reception with Mrs Watts. Mrs Kelsey has completed her teacher training at Appleton and will commence her first substantive post as Reception Teacher at Sherburn Hungate, teaching alongside Miss Bingham, who was the student teacher with us in Autumn Term. They've both done incredibly well and I can't wait to see their progress over the coming years. Well done Nicola and Lucy!
Welcome Miss Eason
As one member of staff leaves, another joins the ApRo team, and we welcomed Miss Eason into school for her first week with us on Monday. Miss Eason will support the Early Years team with Mrs Watts for the remainder of this term and she'll also help Mr Snowden out with some of our learning journeys in Year 3/4 and Year 5/6. Miss Eason is a fully qualified teacher and training to pursue a career in child psychology. I'm sure she'll be a welcome addition to the team.
Congratulations Family Cato!
I am delighted to announce that Mrs Cato is expecting her second child and will be leaving us around October half term. I'm sure you will join me in wishing her and her lovely family, all the very best.
With this wonderful news, Mr Snowden and I have been working hard in the background on the staffing structures for September and onwards. The very well known Mr Crump will rejoin our staffing team when Mrs Cato departs and of course, Mrs Kirkpatrick rejoins us too. Hopefully, by the end of next week, we'll be able to let you know your child's class teacher for September and going forward. Exciting times!

Car Convos!
Talk is really important for all learners in school and we know that our children are exposed to lots of exciting learning opportunities, both at home and at school. To help develop speaking and listening skills and knowledge of the wider world, we're introducing Car Convos! A topic that we share in the newsletter on a Friday, that families can discuss in the car on their travels. We'll then pick this up after the weekend.
This week's Car Convo centres around competition because we've been involved in lots of it this week.

'Why is it important to know how to win and how to loose?'
