Burger Competition
Last Friday the 8th of November, we had our Biannual Burger Competition here at HBHS. The boys had the opportunity to produce a gourmet burger for Mr Binden and his secret guest, who turned out to be Mr Small. The boys planned, researched, designed and worked on their burgers for almost two months. In the end Mr Binden chose a clear winner for the superior and surprising taste, appearance and texture.
Our winners were Benjamin Ili from 9FM and Ulagia Peivi from 9HJ.
Congratulations and well done.

Ākina Junior A Volleyball Team Shines at Hawke's Bay Regionals
The Ākina Junior A volleyball team recently competed in the Hawke's Bay Regionals Volleyball Tournament held at the Pettigrew Green Arena in Taradale.
Tournament Highlights:
- Match 1: Ākina faced the Havelock North Junior A's, winning decisively 2 sets to nil.
- Match 2: They then went up against Napier Boys' Junior A's, securing victory again 2 sets to 1.
- Match 3: In a challenging match against the Gisborne Boys' Junior As, Akina suffered a loss, ending the match at 2 sets to nil.
Despite the setback against Gisborne, Ākina accumulated enough points to advance to the finals. In a rematch against Napier Boys', the Ākina team showcased remarkable resilience. After losing the first set, they rallied to win 2 sets to 1, clinching the Hawke's Bay Regional Junior A Tournament title for the first time in the school’s history. This tournament has been held annually since 2005.
Coaching Staff: The team is currently coached by Peleti Oli, an esteemed old boy with extensive knowledge of the game, along with assistant coach Tivaini Fomai. Peleti's return has been invaluable; his experience has greatly contributed to shaping the team's identity and play style. Notably, he is the only local player to have won a National Title in Volleyball, and his closest achievement as a coach was finishing 5th overall at Nationals.
The Ākina Junior A team's triumph marks a significant milestone in their volleyball journey, demonstrating their hard work, determination, and team spirit.

Vietnam
A group of 30 students from Geography and History, embarked on an
educational and cultural trip to Vietnam, offering students a unique
opportunity to explore the country’s rich history and vibrant culture.
The trip included visits to historical sites such as the Cu Chi
Tunnels and the War Remnants Museum, where we learned about the
Vietnam War and its impact on the local people. Students also were
able to experience Vietnamese culture firsthand, exploring the
markets, tasting local dishes, and engaging with local communities
throughout the trip. All of this making it a trip we would never
forget.
