DEI October Programming
October is a meaningful month for our community as we observe both LGBTQ+ History Month and Bullying Prevention Month. These observances remind us of the importance of fostering a space where every student feels safe, respected, and valued. Let’s continue to build on our commitment to understanding, kindness, and acceptance.
Neurodivergence In The Classroom
In recent years, educators have become increasingly aware of the need for practical and effective tools to address the unique learning styles of their neurodivergent students. In this hands-on workshop, Rick Silver, MD and Mary Jo Puglisi, LCPC will provide participants the opportunity to assess their own strengths and challenges working with this population of students; and to develop customized solutions to specific issues they face in the educational setting. This workshop will allow participants to manage learning-limiting behaviors and mindsets, build a more supportive learning environment and decrease classroom stress.

Senior CAS/Graduation Project Spotlight:
Bradley Roseborough and Logan Sotack are going to go around Marsh Creek Lake and collect trash when the water is low. They will then take out the fishing lures before disposing of the rest of the trash. They will design fishing lures using CAD and then turn them into molds. They will 3D print the molds, melt down the old fishing lures, and use the molds to create new lures which will be given away for free! Neither student has ever designed or created lures from scratch before. The positive consequences of this project are helping the local environment by removing trash and dangerous fishing lures and hooks from the lake, providing free materials to others, and learning new skills in the process.
Class of 2025 [Seniors]:
Students know what to do to keep their ManageBac portfolios up to date, and examples of good student experiences and timelines are provided on Schoology. Students should also be completing CAS Interview #2 with Ms Schell and Mr. Sheehan during their Pathway Revision periods.
Class of 2026 [Juniors]:
Students will beformally introduced to the CAS Project requirement and expectations on October 15. This is in addition to their CAS Experiences, and must be a student-led collaborative endeavor that spans at least one month.
Class of 2025 [Seniors]:
With less than one month until EE Rough Drafts are due to both ManageBac and Turnitin (Nov. 8), students are working with their EE Advisor to focus their RQ, review their outline and research, and refine their writing for a rough draft. Example essays for all subjects, along with the grading rubric, are available on Schoology.
Class of 2026 [Juniors]:
Juniors will be formally introduced to the Extended Essay (EE) process on October 15, and will be encouraged to start brainstorming possible subjects and topics. Resources for both EE and CAS will be available on Schoology to help.
