Thank you to our Auraki teachers and students for showcasing Mauri Matauranga this morning. I had the pleasure of observing the Better Start Literacy program in action. During the session, I witnessed group-based teaching where some students were learning letter sounds, others were focusing on letter formation, and a few were practising writing blends and high-frequency words. Well done, whanau—you are amazing!
TAIAO - Maara Kai
Our green hands are at it again in and around our kura maara kai with whaea Reremoana.

School uniform
All students are required to wear the correct Te Kura o Te Paroa school uniform. Our uniform represents our kura and its values, and we expect all students to wear it with pride.
Any mufti or incorrect uniform items will be held at the office for whānau to collect. If you need a uniform price list, this is available from the school office.
This includes sports sleeves, which may be worn on the sports field but not during school hours.
As winter approaches, now is the time to prepare for winter uniforms.
Please note:
Black tights, leggings, or pants are not permitted.
Dark navy blue trackpants are available at The Warehouse for $7.00–$10.00, depending on the size of your tamaiti.
Te Kura o Te Paroa jerseys and jackets are available—mufti jerseys and jackets are not allowed.
We appreciate your support in ensuring our tamariki look sharp and wear their uniform with pride. Please check what they are wearing each morning before they leave for school.
Attendance
Please ensure that you contact the kura if your child is away sick. This means they can be marked as explained or medical rather than truant.
When you are reporting absences please give students full name, class, reason and how many days away.
Ways of reporting student absences are:
Ring the school office - 07 308 6652
Send Txt message to 0274471900.
Send via skool loop app.
Send message to classroom teachers.
Every day counts.
Attendance + Attitude = Success.
● For continued absences or truancy, tamariki and whanau will be referred to Attendance services, who will help identify and support barriers to coming to kura.
● For tamariki with chronic absences, please note that the kura can engage with external agencies to help support being at kura more regularly.
● Please talk to your classroom teacher or LSC if you need support getting tamariki to school.
School swimming pool
We are fortunate to have a functional swimming pool at our kura, providing all our ākonga with the opportunity to learn essential water safety skills and strengthen their swimming abilities. To make the most of this resource, please support your tamaiti in bringing their togs every day.
For health and safety reasons, our pool is only open during school hours and is not available for public use. This ensures the water is treated correctly and regularly monitored for the wellbeing of our tamariki.
Ngā mihi nui for your support.
Linewize program.
We now have a new program in the school that monitors students' online behaviour and activity. Please remind your tamaiti that learning experiences set up by the kaiako are there for the purpose of learning. If misuse of the schools devices or internet activity is reported their devices will be taken from them.
Students are not allowed to bring phones to school. If a phone is required for the student to communicate with their whānau the phone is to be left at the school office.
Phones are not allowed to be used during play breaks, in the classroom, at Kapa Haka practice, or sporting excursions.
If kaiako and staff see a phone they will be confiscated.
Therefore, whānau I need your help:
-Please check that your child hasn’t brought their phone to kura.
-Please check their social media platforms.
-Please monitor the sites they are going on at home.
Family link is a free app that has been used by a member of staff at our kura. She highly recommends the use of this app for her tamariki.
Even though most incidents of misconduct online occur outside of school hours and off school premises, the repercussions are still felt within the school community.
By keeping an eye on how your child behaves online, you can help prevent these negative behaviours from occurring.
Bus Rules
Please talk to your tamaiti about the expectations we have at Te Kura O Te Paroa while they are travelling to and from kura on the bus.
