LENTEN PRAYER FOR TRANSFORMATION
Loving Father,
I invite you into my life today and make myself available to you.
Help me to become the-best-version-of-myself
by seeking your will and becoming a living example of your love in the world.
Open my heart to the areas of my life that need to change
in order for me to carry out the mission
and experience the joy you have imagined for my life.
Inspire me to live the Catholic faith in ways that are dynamic and engaging.
Show me how to best get involved in the life of my parish.
Make our community hungry for best practices and continuous learning.
Give me courage when I am afraid, hope when I am discouraged,
and clarity in times of decision.
Teach me to enjoy uncertainty and lead your Church
to become all you imagined it would be
for the people of our times.
Amen.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH
KINDNESS
During the month of March, we will focus on the virtue of Kindness.
God wants us to give generously to others around us.
A kind person …
• is gentle and sensitive to others
• stands by their friends in time of need
• shares their time and talents
• says nice things about others from the heart
• always looks for ways to be helpful
God wants us to be kind to everyone we meet. KINDNESS is about more than just pretending to be nice. It is about helping and playing with others because we want to, not because we feel we have
to. We have all been given the fruit of the Holy Spirit called
kindness, which is the act of loving and giving generously to others as God does. Our empathy for others is transformed into action that
extends beyond concern for ourselves and allows us to see God in every face that we meet.
Let us now pray ... for the virtue of kindness so that everyone we meet will feel like we are looking out for their good. AMEN.

Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week
The theme chosen for the upcoming 2025 Catholic Education Week is: Catholic Education: Pilgrims of Hope L’éducation catholique: Pèlerins de l’espérance.
“We must fan the flame of hope that has been given to us.” (Letter on the Jubilee Year of Hope, February 11, 2022)
The five sub themes for Catholic Education week explore ways to live out Pope Francis’ call for each one of us to be Pilgrims of Hope…
- by honouring human dignity / honorent la dignité humaine (Monday)
- by caring for creation / prennent soin de la création (Tuesday)
- by responding to the poverties in our world / luttent contre les pauvretés (Wednesday)
- by serving in solidarity / servent en solidarité (Thursday)
- by living as peacemakers / vivent en artisans de paix (Friday)
Catholic Education Week Prayer
Hope is our calling, O Lord,
and the destination of our pilgrim journeys.
As we mark this Jubilee Year of hope,
keep our eyes focused on Jesus,
and on the hope he reveals to us.
All our hope is in you, O God, in the name of Jesus
our Lord and companion.
Amen

MARCH
For families in crisisLet us pray that broken families might discover the cure for their wounds through forgiveness, rediscovering each other's gifts, even in their differences.
Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, observed in many Christian countries through participating in confession and absolution, the ritual burning of the previous year's Holy Week palms, finalizing one's Lenten sacrifice, as well as eating pancakes and other sweets. Our Catholic School Council provided students with delicious pancakes. A special thank you for our Catholic School council members and parent volunteers who were able to support this great day
Ash Wednesday
The Liturgical calendar continues to move forward and we will soon begin the season of Lent. Lent is the 40 day period of fasting, penitence, and sorrow, leading up to the feast of Easter, recalling Jesus’ 40 day fast in the wilderness. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. Lent is a time to turn to God in simplicity and sincerity, as we prepare to celebrate the joy of Easter. Our hearts feel heavy as we remember our sins, but we are also confident in God’s mercy and forgiveness. We will be gathering for our Ash Wednesday Liturgy on Wednesday March 5th at 1:15. We thank Mrs. Policelli for supporting this faith filled event, and of course, our pastoral team at St. Catherine of Siena Parish.

MARDI GRAS DANCE-A-THON
Our Mardi Gras Dance-a-thon was a huge hit!!! All our students showed their amazing school spirit while dancing in the gym to their favourite music on Monday March 3rd, provided by the DJ Club at Father Michael Goetz Catholic Secondary School. Students also enjoyed playing Carnival games led by our intermediate students under the direction of Mrs. Mallia-Bomben. Huge Thank you to our intermediates and Mrs. Mallia-Bomben for organizing such a great day! We want to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of our Zanon Families for your support of this fundraiser. $2648.00 was raised. These funds will be used to support a new school mural, presentations and guest speakers.
ShareLife
ShareLife has a long tradition of assisting the vulnerable and marginalized in our community dating back to the 1840’s when our first Archbishop of Toronto, Michael Power, personally worked with immigrants who were dying of typhus. Today we continue this tradition by extending an invitation to all Catholics to take part in continuing to care for the vulnerable among us. ShareLife supports a number of Catholic organizations within the community and Archdiocese of Toronto. Student involvement in school-based activities has already raised some funds, and our Spirit Week activities further support. Thank you for giving generously. $123.00 was raised.
March Break
March Break is from Monday, March 10, 2025 to Friday, March 14, 2025. The students return to school on Monday, March 17, 2025. Have fun and be safe
The Great Gulp! The Great Big Crunch!
The Great Gulp! The Great Big Crunch!
In an effort to continue to educate our students about nutrition, healthy eating, and being stewards of the earth, we are happy to announce that we will be participating in two great events.
On March 22nd, World Water Day, we will participate in the Region of Peel sponsored ‘The Great Gulp’ event to help create awareness about the importance of Peel drinking water in our lives. All students will be encouraged to take a gulp of tap water at the same time in unison.
The Great Big Crunch where the students will all join in an annual moment of anti-silence where everyone gets together and bites into crunchy fresh local produce in unison. We are looking forward to both of these worthwhile events.
Earth Hour
Every year many Canadians participate in Earth Hour. Last year, over 410,000 hours were given to our planet by supporters in over 190countries and territories. Switch off and give an hour for Earth on Saturday March 22 at 8:30 p.m. Together, let's create the Biggest Hour for Earth!
World Down Syndrome Day
On Friday March 21st, we will be highlighting World Down Syndrome Day to encourage awareness about Down Syndrome. Students are encouraged to wear mismatched socks to "Rock Your Socks" and raise awareness and start conversations.
EQAO Math Webinars for Parents and Guardians
EQAO staff have added NEW dates to their free LIVE webinar series for parents and guardians.
Staff will discuss math questions that Ontario students encounter when they participate in Ontario’s large-scale assessments in Grades 3, 6 and 9. During the webinar, EQAO staff will show how these math questions help assess the skills students are learning in their math classes. Staff will also share valuable insights from the past three years of assessment results, which can help parents and guardians support their children’s math learning.
We invite you to share this information and the registration links with families in your school community.

CYBERSAFETY
The Internet can be a great resource for children and adults. They can use it to research, communicate with others, and play interactive games. Sometimes that access can pose hazards. One area that we are seeing an increase in abuse is in the use of social media. That's why it's important to be aware of what your children see and hear on the Internet, who they meet, and what they share about themselves online. Just like any safety issue, it's wise to talk with your children about your concerns, take advantage of resources to protect them, and keep a close eye on their activities.
Accident Insurance
Please recall the student insurance information that was sent home earlier in the school year. Parents may send the completed forms directly to the insurance company if they wish coverage. In addition, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board does not provide accident insurance coverage for student injuries that occur on school premises or during school activities. You may purchase coverage for your child at insure my kids or by calling toll free at 1-800-463-KIDS (5437). Information about Student Accident Insurance will be available to parents/guardians on the Board’s Internet Main Page under the header “Parents.”
Custody of Children
On rare occasions, we are faced with difficult situations in which non-custodial parents arrive at school asking to visit their child or to take their child home after school. We are best able to serve and protect students when we are made aware of legal custody arrangements, visitation rights, and other special instructions. If legal custody matters affect your family, please ensure that our office and classroom teachers are aware of custodial arrangements between parents that may affect your child during school hours. Please ensure that a copy of the Court Order is on file at the school office.
Chess
Our Chess club is underway and full of strategy, excellent teamwork and even some mentoring. We thank Coaches; Ms. Policelli and Mr. Figliola for providing students with this amazing opportunity. The family of schools chess tournament will be taking place on Thursday April 10th at St. Philip CES.
Intermediate Boys and Girls Basketball
Our intermediate boys and girls basketball teams are working really hard and giving their all. Thank you to coaches Ms. Kocet and Mr. Rosinki. Both teams will participate in basketball mini pod tournaments in the first week of April. We are so proud of our students. Go Dragonz!
Graduation Photo Day
Graduation photos for our grade 8 students will take place in the morning of Thursday April 2nd
GRADUATION - SAVE THE DATE - JUNE 19
Attendance and Punctuality
We ask that parents continue to support their children in their morning routines so that they can arrive to school on time. This ensures that your child learns an essential life skill, participates in the entire school day, and that disruptions to the learning environment are minimal.
COLD WEATHER SEASON
Appropriate Dress - Cold Weather
The days continue to be cold and wintry. We ask that students dress appropriately with coats, hats, gloves, mitts, boots, snow pants etc. If they are dressed warmly, they are better prepared to participate in outdoor activities during recess and the lunch hour. On extremely cold days, we limit the amount of time that students spend out of doors. We obtain our weather information from the Environment Canada Weather Information Line and follow School Board guidelines. Board Guidelines indicate that students will generally be outside for lunch and recess when temperatures do not fall below - 25 degrees Celsius, with the wind chill. With the exception of these occasions, all children will go out for recess and the lunch break. We remind all students to dress appropriately for the weather.
We ask all students to have indoor shoes. Please note that in the event of an emergency evacuation, students will not have the opportunity to put their boots on. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Extra Clothes for the Winter Season
Often during the winter season we have students, for various of reasons, coming to the office with wet clothes from playing outside during recess. We recommend, for the younger students, that you place an extra pair of pants, a shirt and socks in their back packs. This would help to avoid bothering parents at work when these situations occur. It is also recommended that students bring appropriate snow gear to school during these winter months (snowsuits, boots, gloves, mitts, hats). All students are asked, if possible, to have indoor shoes.
Student Illness—Staying in During Recess
Cold and Flu season is upon us. We remind parents to please use discretion in keeping your children home to recover. A child who is too ill to go out for recess is too ill to be at school. Your co-operation to keep your child home when he/she is ill is greatly appreciated.
In A Digital World
No Dogs on School Property
Please note that there are children who have allergies to animal hair, and who have a fear of dogs. In order to prevent a potential concern for our students, please do not bring your dog onto school property during school hours. Thank you for your continued cooperation
Medical Information
All students who have been diagnosed by a doctor with asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, or seizures must have completed the necessary Plan of Care Forms. These forms only need to be completed once (unless the diagnosis or medication has changed) and they will be stored in your child's OSR.
If your child requires an epi pen or puffer and they must carry it on them at all times this must be clearly indicated on the Plan of Care, otherwise it will be stored in the main office. The Authorization for the storage and administration of medication must be completed annually.
If your child requires any other type of medicine to be taken during school hours (Advil, Tylenol etc. ) you must complete the Authorization for the storage and administration of medication form and it will be stored in the main office.
Please send the required forms and medicine to the main office in a clearly labelled bag.
Kiss and Ride
A reminder about the Kiss and Ride. Thank you for driving all the way to the top of the kiss and ride lane, having children ready to exit vehicles from the right side and ensuring the continuous flow of cars. Please continue to follow the kiss and ride protocol. Wait in queue, do not jump the line for safety. If your child(ren) require assistance exiting the vehicle please consider parking in the lot. Do Not leave your vehicle parked, unattended in the kiss and ride lane and do not block the buses. We appreciate your assistance and support. Remember always SAFETY FIRST. Thank you
Moving?
If you are planning to move out of the Father Daniel Zanon school area or change address within our boundaries, please let the office know as soon as possible. Please keep us informed of any address, phone number or medical changes for your children. It is of the utmost importance that our records be up to date. If your child should get sick or hurt, we must have accurate contact information.

If you are a Catholic ratepayer, we urge you to check your property tax bill to ensure that your support is directed to your local Catholic school Board, in our case, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.
