Something to Yelle About
The Weekly Newsletter for the Henri A. Yelle Elementary
WINNING THIS WEEK IN #HAYNation!
Yelle Newsletter for June 7th!
Hello from the Yelle.
And now we have the last Friday of the school year; all of the "lasts" are starting to happen for us here in the very, very end of the year for #HAYNation.
Lots of cool things going on in these last days!
As I try to do each week, I use the big picture above to tell the story of the week in pictures for us here at the Yelle.
This week the Big Picture starts with our SRO Sgt. Dennett who gave a police escort to one of our students, having won it in a NEED Raffle. Such a great experience! #Community! The middle pictures start with some of our Egg Drop Champs, whose eggs survived their tumultous drops. Then this week's #PositiveSignThursday message of We Are In It TO WIN IT on our Celtics Day in our Green & White. The bottom row of pictures highlight our 3rd Grade Future Yellians getting their tour of the building by our awesome 4th Grade Guides, who helped showing them the school, answering questions, and relaying to them how life is in #HAYNation! And, right now, life is pretty good!
These and the other pictures from Twitter below really do relay a story of the amazing accomplishments our students and teachers achieved in just this one week of school. Please check them out below and all over our Twitter feed to help to tell the tremendous story we are writing this year.

2024 Yelle Field Day
Henri A. Yelle School Field Day
June 10, 2024
Dear Yelle Families:
The 2024 Yelle Field Day is scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2024. If we have inclement weather, we will have field day on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. The decision to postpone field day, if necessary, will be made as early as possible.
We will be focusing on a team approach this year. To help promote teamwork and to help identify teams, students are encouraged to wear their designated class color. (Colors are listed below). Activities will be located on the multi-purpose field behind the school.
General Expectations
1. Each classroom is to stay together for the entire day.
2. Each classroom must stay in their assigned area for the duration of their activity.
3. Classrooms are encouraged to use banners, cheers, songs, and shirts to identify
and promote a positive team atmosphere.
Helpful Field Day Tips
Following are some items that you may want to consider sending with your child on field day:
Sunscreen – It may be very warm and sunny, and as we will be outside, sunscreen can be very important.
Water Bottle – Students do have some time for drinks, but a water bottle can be convenient, as long as they are used appropriately.
Hat – Not necessary, but they are allowed.
Team Colors
Please use these colors for this year.
Green – Carline, Lehane
Yellow – Allen, Benson
Red – Correira, Winters
Blue – Bruno, Donahue, Murphy
Purple – Mihajlovits, Rose
Orange– Browne, Chu
Pink – Cross, Marsland
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. McCallister at jmccallister@norton.k12.ma.us. Thank you!
Thinking About Next Year, 2024-2025
To Next Year's Yelle Families:
We are starting to think about scheduling for next school year.
Please let Mr. Geoghegan know if there is information you want him to know about as we look at groupings for next year's 4th and 5th Grade classes.
I cannot always promise everything but we most certainly try our best at finding the best fit and situation for all students.
Any questions, please let Mr. Geoghegan know.
Thank you,
Mr. G
5th Grade Transition to NMS
Dear Yelle Grade 5 Families,
In a few short months your child will be making the transition from the elementary school to the middle school. We have carefully begun implementing an orientation process in order to make this change as smooth as possible.
On Wednesday, May 15 = Principal Hayward, Guidance Counselor Mrs. Norma Fowler along with some student representatives visited the Henri A. Yelle School. During our visit we were able to meet the students in small group settings to tell them about NMS and give them a chance to ask questions.
On Thursday, May 23 = Grade 5 students visted the middle school during the school day, toured the building, met with the grade 6 teachers and viewed the NMS drama club’s production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
As one chapter in your education comes to a close, another exciting one is about to begin. To assist incoming grade 6 students and parents, we have created this website specifically for you. Our goal is to offer you a glimpse into the daily student experience at NMS, providing valuable insights and resources. Within this site, you will find numerous videos and helpful links. I strongly encourage you to explore each one, as they offer valuable information and perspectives.
We look forward to welcoming you to Norton Middle School and embarking on this exciting educational journey together.
Please check out this informational website created just for our rising grade 6 Parents and Students = NMS Welcome Class of 2031 Website
Summer visit to Norton Middle School:
We will be hosting an in person Welcome Back Ice Cream Social event in August prior to the start of school. The purpose of this will be to provide all incoming grade 6 students an opportunity to reconnect with friends, tour the building again, locate their homeroom, listen to music, play some lawn games, eat ice cream and take away some of the worry that comes with starting middle school. An open campus tour of the building and learning spaces for parents will also take place. I will be working with the NMS Parent board to determine the specific date and time. Once finalized, this information will be communicated over the summer to all incoming grade 6 families through ParentSquare
Sincerely,
Vincent M. Hayward
