Student Spotlight
.
This month's Student Spotlight is on Geraldo Pedraza! Geraldo is a very hard worker and focused student who is constantly asking questions, checking with teachers, and taking the initiative to get missing work finished! He does wonderfully at meeting school expectations, and is helpful to other students. Way to be Safe, Kind, and Responsible!
Teacher Corner
Mr. Bell
In 6th grade, we have just wrapped up our study on prehistory, including the Paleolithic and Neolithic Eras, and are now beginning our look into complex societies and ancient civilizations! Ancient Egypt, here we come!
In 7th grade, we finished our inquiry into South and Central Asia, including ways of thinking in those areas of the world, like Buddhism and Hinduism. Next, we will begin focusing on the countries in East Asia: China, Korea, and Japan!
In 8th grade, we finished our unit looking at what life was like in the US when the Constitution was created, and are in the middle of our inquiry on the impact of westward expansion! Students will soon be picking a topic to investigate the impact of it, and create their own PSA poster about it!
Mr. Jarvis
8th Grade experimenting with Collisions and protecting objects from the energy in collisions.

In English class, students continue to develop the skills necessary to be good test takers. They are also increasing their reading and writing skills by asking questions and working with others. The current read aloud books are The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks, Ghost by Jason Reynolds, and Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. All three books are worth reading!
Students to CELEBRATE this month are: Edward for asking for help and focusing until he completes his tasks, Madison for signing up for help during self directed time to stay on track, Arazelli for taking initiative to complete Power Focus Areas, Horaciojose for always having a great attitude toward learning, and Christian and Jamin for really getting in gear and completing lots of English work in record time! These students who have given learning an extra boost are good examples for their peers.
Student Birthdays
Occasionally students wish to observe his/her birthday at school. General guidelines we all follow:
· Food treats are permissible, but interruption of the school program should be kept to a minimum.
· Food treats need to be individually wrapped and prepared commercially.
· Please avoid red punch or frosting.
· Please do not provide gum.
