- Alumni Spotlight of the Week: Zaniya Kelly, a proud graduate of Davis Aerospace High School, attributes her success to the foundation laid by the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). She firmly believes that "There is no circumstance that can limit the heights you can reach." As a Transit Outreach Specialist for TRUE, Kelly explores her passion for the environment and culture, a spark ignited at Davis Aerospace through hands-on aviation experiences. A recent career highlight for Kelly was the privilege of introducing the President of the United States Joe Biden, underscoring her impressive accomplishments. Watch here, as Kelly speaks about her career milestones and reminisce about her time at Davis Aerospace. Kelly encourages DPSCD students to believe in themselves, grab every opportunity, and not let their circumstances define their future. Kelly stands as a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work as the pillars of success. We are #DPSCDproud of you Zaniya.

Literacy Lawsuit Engagement Session
DPSCD Staff, Students and Families,
The District will conduct three community engagement sessions regarding our recommended plans to use $94 million dollars of one-time funding through the historic Gary B. v. Snyder lawsuit in which former DPS students sued the state for depriving them of their fundamental right to literacy education under emergency management. Two of the three sessions will be online and the other in person. All dates, times, and links/location are included below.
These sessions are an opportunity for you to understand how we plan to use this funding to better support our students, staff, and families and accelerate the literacy improvement the District has recently demonstrated. The sessions also provide you with an opportunity to provide input into our plans before the School Board conducts their final review and approval.
I hope you can join us!

DPSCD Highlights
As part of a great week and weekend of the draft, we had 11 Student Athletes inducted into the Fritz Pollard Jr. Academy. Which is something the NFL does in every city they host the draft in. What made it an unbelievable experience, NFL Commissioner was there announcing as if it was the draft, and our student athletes had a chance to take a picture with him and shake his hand. #TheFutureisRising
