Hickory Ridge Highlights
May 24, 2025
Dear Hickory Ridge Families,
MEDICATION
If your child has medication at school, please remember to pick up any medication and accompanying devices, such as inhaler spacers. If not picked up, medication and accompanying devices will be destroyed on June 6th.
ACCESS YOUR CHILD’S STATE TEST SCORES
Ohio law (Ohio Revised Code 3313.6029) requires districts, community schools, STEM schools and chartered nonpublic schools to report the results of Ohio’s State Tests to students’ parents or guardians no later than June 30 of each year. Results may be either sent via mail, electronic mail or by posting the scores to a secure portal on the district or school’s website that families can access.
ProgressBook parent access can be found at https://pa.neonet.org/district
Click on the Brunswick “B” Icon and sign in to your parent account
On the left menu, click Assessment Scores - here you will see a list of scores for all assessments
If your child is a high school student, you can view previous assessments by selecting "Next Generation Assessment" from the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
Note: There are five performance levels of achievement in each subject area. Three of the performance levels [Advanced (5), Accomplished (4) and Proficient (3)] are above the “passing” score of 700. Two performance levels [Basic (2) and Limited (1)] are below the “passing” score. The accomplished level of performance suggests that a student is on track for college and career readiness.

May Counselor's Corner
We made it to the last month of the 2024-2025 school year!! I hope everyone finishes out the year strong. Please continue to reach out to me if you have any concerns about your child. My contact information is listed below.
Most classes have completed our Second Step lessons for the year but I will be concluding them in a couple of the classrooms in May. Please continue to practice the Problem Solving STEPs with your child: Say the problem, Think of solutions, Explore consequences and Pick the best solution. These steps spell the word, STEP, so that helps us remember what to do when a conflict arises. Also, remember there are activities and explanations of the Second Step lessons online. You can access these over the summer as well! See the parent links (listed below in this newsletter) for more information and how you can work with your child on these concepts at home to help with their social emotional learning.
Grow a Garden With Your Child, Teach About Values
As the weather gets warmer, you can help your child plant a garden. While you are both learning about what makes plants grow, you will also have a great chance to talk about values together. A small seed won’t grow very well on its own. The care of a gardener helps. Too much or too little water or sunlight and the seed won’t grow into a plant.
Take your child to a nursery. Look at the plants that are growing. Buy a small packet or two of seeds. When you get home, plant a small garden. If you can’t plant an outdoor garden, buy a few small plants you can grow in pots. As you and your child water and care for the growing plants, here are some questions you can ask:
What would happen to this flower if we just stopped taking care of it?
What happens to people when other people stop caring for them?
How do you think plants are like people?
Who are the people in your life who are like gardeners to you?
Is there anyone that you are like a gardener for?
As the garden grows, you and your child will find many other things to talk about. You’ll help your child see that with proper love and care, people and plants can bloom and grow!
