We would love to see LOTS of our family members attend this family event. The cost for lunch is $7 per visitor (child and/or adult). Students that attend Coosa or another Beaufort County School are free. The menu is: Roasted turkey, creamy mashed potatoes & gravy, herbed stuffing, seasoned green beans, warm apple crisp, and iced tea/water. Tea is for visitors only. Be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming iReady Winter Diagnostics. All students will test in the area of reading on Monday, December 2 and in math on Monday, December 9.

You can support your student(s) by:

*Ensuring their devices are at school those days and fully charged.

*Helping them to get a good night's rest before the test and a healthy breakfast in the morning.

*Giving them words of encouragement to take their time, read carefully, and do their best.

Are you interested in playing chess? I would like to start a chess club that would meet one day a week (about an hour long) for approximately two times a month. The day of the week is TBD. The club would be for 4th and 5th graders. The amount of students in the club is based on the amount of student interested and the amount of adults willing to help. The school is willing to purchase the chess boards for our club thanks to the donations from our business partners. This special gathering is open to all Multilanguage Learners from BCSD and promises something for everyone! Learn about the exciting updates to the ACCESS English Language Proficiency Test, snap a photo with Santa Claus himself, and cross your fingers for a chance to win amazing raffle prizes! We would like to recognize our military affiliated families by creating a display at Coosa. Approximately 1/3 of our current students have an active military parent/guardian in a branch of the military. We ask that you send in a family photo to display on our military bulleting board. This week our friends at the Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center have been with us in the school library! Each day a different grade level got to participate in an onsite field trip with one of the Center's Naturalist. During the week students learned about vertebrates and invertebrates (1st grade), sea jellies (2nd grade), the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling (3rd), the Port Royal Sound watershed and how we affect our waters (4th), and squid (5th). Thank you to our friends at PRSF's Maritime Center for being with us this week! We hope our students had a fun learning experience this week in our library!

We want to share with our families that we applied for the Palmetto's Finest Award. At the elementary level, only 1-2 elementary schools are awarded this prestigious award yearly in the state of South Carolina. The process begins with an extensive application submission with the superintendent's approval. Independent readers evaluate applications and recommend semifinalist schools for initial site visits. Members of the SCASA Palmetto's Finest Awards Committee visit the schools. Coosa has been chosen for an initial site visit. The committee will conduct an unannounced school visit between the dates of December 3- December 13. From those visits, finalist schools are selected and notified. If we make it to the next phase, the awards committee members return for a second site visit. If parents and/community visitors are onsite during their visit, they plan to ask them questions about the school.

Do you feel you have a student who would qualify as Gifted and Talented in Arts? BCSD students who are identified as Gifted and Talented in Arts will have many opportunities provided to them, including both school and districtwide activities. This identification will follow the student through Middle and High School.

• Screenings are open to all students grades 3-5 who are interested and are referred by an adult. The form can be completed from September 23–November 25. Screenings will take place on a date to be decided between January 21 – February 13.
• If you are interested and would like the Related Arts teachers to fill out the form, please reach out to the appropriate teacher. Parents/guardians may also fill out the form on behalf of their child.
